After class, Ellie stopped at JGOB to purchase a cupcake for herself. After all, today was her birthday. Why not indulge a little in baked goods? It wasn't just any birthday. Ariel was heading back to her room, sending a "Hi, Ellie!" through the open door in passing, but then she bounced back and popped her head in a little.

"You have a cupcake," she observed. "Is that a celebratory cupcake, or just a I got a cupcake because they're delicious cupcake?"

"Hey Ariel," Ellie said with a wave. "I guess both. Cupcakes should be bought every now and then just because they are delicious. But this one is a little celebratory, too. It's my birthday."

"It is?" asked Ariel, instantly gaining a grin. "Well, happy birthday, then! That's a great reason for cupcakes."

Although she couldn't help wondering what it was with the Bartowski family and having birthday cake by themselves.

"How old are you?"

"Thanks. I'm eighteen now," Ellie answered. "You know, I've got some leftover cake the chef at the hotel made for me if you want any."

No, it wasn't Ellie's parents calling, but someone who kind of knew Ellie's dad totally counted, right? Anyway, Hoshi was stuck on campus for a while and had time to kill, so she decided to give Ellie a call.

Ellie smiled when she spotted the caller I.D. "Hi Hoshi. Taking a break from classes?"

"Sort of. I had a class earlier, and there's a lecture on campus that I want to go to later on, so I'm sticking around," said Hoshi. "Did I get the right date? Is it your birthday? I'm never entirely sure whether or not I've been able to stay in sync with the passage of time in Fandom!"

"Well, looks like you might still be in sync because today is my birthday," Ellie said.

There was at least one person who knew exactly what day today was and... he would have to make up for all the missing family today.

Chuck tapped on the door before leaning into her room. "Heey-- Tell me you're still going to be hungry after that." Because he had a bag of sizzling shrimp, and while he probably could eat the whole thing himself... That was not the plan.

"Oh, this was just a pre-dinner snack," Ellie said, ginning. "And I always have room for Chinese food."

This was a Bartowski tradition, after all.

"Right. Silly me. I mean, how could I ever think someone could turn down sizzling shrimp?" He grinned, moving into the room himself and setting the bag down on her bed as he sat down near her.

"I would've done the whole surprise party thing for you too, but---" Not his forte. At all. "But if you want one, I can probably try?" he offered.

"I'm sure you could," Ellie replied. "But you don't have to. This is perfect as is."
