‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the motel
Not a creature was stirring except for a watchful Castiel
There he stood stately in his trademark tan trench
Prepared to battle anything: ghost, demon or evil wench
Dean and not-so-little Sammy lay snoozing in bed
While visions of metallicar danced in their heads
Then out in the parking lot arose such a clatter
Cas knew it was his duty to investigate the matter
Exiting the room quietly, he stepped into the night
And stopped short when his eyes rested on a peculiar sight
Drunks stumbled out of the bar next door, this wasn’t so weird
But slightly unusual was the man with the beard
And cherry-red nose and suit much the same color
Cas tilted his head, stepped forward and drew himself taller
"What manner of demon are you?" he demanded, ready to fight.
“The kind that brings joy,” the bearded one laughed, “every Christmas Eve night.”
And with that, the old man winked, and vanished into thin air
Leaving Cas to do nothing but blink and stare
Regaining his composure, he returned inside to protect his friends
Uneasy about what the appearance of this gentleman might portend
In the makeshift kitchen the man stood rummaging through his sack
Distracted - perfect time for Castiel to make his attack
Cas snuck up behind him, ready to smite
When the gent turned suddenly, eyes twinkling bright
In each hand he held a present, wrapped in festive paper with a bow
Further confusing the angel, though he tried hard not to let it show
“For Dean,” the man announced, “a bottle of Jack and a new Beretta
“And Sam, an emo mix and fan-girl survival guide (how meta!)
“As for your present, brave angel, I’ve thought long and hard
“I know what you seek and I can’t help in that regard
“What I can do is offer you a few words of wisdom:
“Even on Earth, one can find the heavenly kingdom
“It’s in the warm smiles of your companions, the affection they share
“Through strip clubs and diner food and the occasional heated glare
“True, they protest some. The pretty one especially
“But know love is the reason he reacts so defensively
“Your faith has been tested. Your patience too
“And through it all you’ve proven your colors are true blue
“So that is my gift, a vote of confidence; please don’t mock.”
With a mischievous grin he added, “Oh also, this glock.”
Castiel stared intently, trying to make sense of this apparition
With his strange clothes, white hair and cheery disposition
He searched for words that couldn’t be found
Surprised by the kindness from this creature so round
Then with a knowing look, the bearded man took his leave
And Cas knew that his words weren’t meant to deceive
He smiled as the man bowed and faded from sight
“Happy Christmas to all,” he exclaimed. “And to all a good-night!”
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE
