break my heart.  5 of our 6 cats were strays.  Our dog was a stray.  Our turtle was a stray.  (His fish were not.)  My birds were not strays, they were "oopsies" that their parents (rest their feathery souls) surprised us all with ( Read more... )

If you get it inside, can you take to to the vet and see it its microchipped? If its lost, then you can find it owner?

Well, so far s/he won't come near, so it's not an issue. I know one of our two cats (the only two who go outside) has been hanging out with it ( ... )

I was coming in to say 'bless you', as well.

You're doing the right thing.

We try. There's a guy down the street who takes in lots of the stray cats too. Like us, he feeds them even though it's the city and that's a big no-no. (Sometimes you get critters other than lost kitties or puppies.)

bless you (too)!!! Seth used to care for the ferral cats in his old neighborhood. he worked with an org that spayed and neutered them, but kept them in their neighborhoods. apparently that keeps other ferrals from coming around. when we go back to miami we sometimes spin by the old place to check in on Mama Kitty, Baby Girl and Little Man.

We've looked into spay programs around here. There are no free programs, and about the least expensive with "stray" assistance is about $60 to start, before shots and such. (Our vet bills get ridiculous.) The last time I talked to anyone in an official capacity, nobody was much into doing anything with strays. Providence hasn't made it illegal to feed them (like the city next door) but they aren't fond of strays unless they're being taken in. And then they're FAST to jump on the "would you like us to euthanize him?" if the animal has any medical issues. I know why, I just don't follow that philosophy
