I'll have to agree with you that I wasn't too interested in his music until he died. I feel that's with a lot of people in general: when they die, you're more interested in them and what they did and had to say.

I noticed this at a classmate's funeral. In life, people thought he was a pretentious, know-it-all prick but when he died in his sleep, everyone talked about how great and funny and clever he was.

Makes you think.

I've been listening to that song on repeat for the past week. So weird. Good piece, Jess.

I became a fan of Elliott Smith when I was in eighth grade because I was obsessed with the movie Good Will Hunting, which most of the soundtrack consists of Elliott Smith songs. The song you chose for the video was the one I was very much enamored with and I would feel like a "rebel" when singing along because I would say the word "fuck". So when I heard about his suicide four years later, I was very sad. The local radio station devouted an hour to playing just his songs. I even have an entry in this journal about it.

This was a very well-written post, I'm glad you wrote it. I don't listen to Elliott Smith half as much as I should.
