Jack
Jack Wilshere has his hands stuffed in the pockets of his jeans and a pretty sulky look on his face. He's trying really hard to pretend that he isn't sulking, trying instead to think about happy things like Chuck and Blair's epic love affair or Arsenal's win that week in the Champions League or the cup of tea that someone on set is currently making him, but it is very hard. Rooney is standing not five feet away from him, cooing over a puppy with the puppy's handler, and Jack doesn't know who he's more jealous of, Rooney or the handler. What a cool job. Why didn't anyone tell him he could get a job as a puppy handler? He frowns in their direction.
The man who is currently touching up Jack's make-up sighs. "Sorry mate," he says, "can you just- keep your face straight, please?"
"Sorry," Jack says, but the puppy makes an adorable whimpery noise and Jack isn't really sorry at all.
Kaka
Kaka is distracted. There's a puppy to his left which is making really cute noises, and a weird demon santa gnome thing to his right that Kaka thinks might come and kill him in his sleep tonight in a horrific horror film set up. He's going to have to ring his wife or Cristiano and make them talk to him all night just in case.
Someone hands him a banjo. Kaka kind of wants to learn the banjo. He smiles at whoever it was, and then Pique comes into the room and everything is suddenly a lot louder. Pique grins and nods at Kaka. "Hey!" he calls, and waves. Kaka smiles and waves back.
Pique bounds over to Rooney first and claps him on the back. "Alright Wazza?"
Rooney looks up from the puppy and shakes Pique's hand. "Hey," he says, "How's it going?"
Jack
Jack watches Pique and Rooney and Kaka gather around the puppy. They're not paying it any attention though, they're chatting about something, Jack can't tell, he hears Ronaldo's name a couple of times and Pique's laughing a lot. Jack's make-up is finished and he edges towards the group, trying to see a gap through which he could sneak to get to the puppy and not have to talk to any of them.
Pique sees them though and booms out his name unnecessarily loudly.
"Hi," Jack says, reluctantly, and doesn't meet Pique's eyes. He's not afraid to admit that he definitely hasn't forgiven Pique yet. He looks instead at the happy bundle of fluff that is the puppy, and tries to steer his thoughts away from his ex-captain.
"How are you?" Pique says.
Jack sighs. He's not going to be rude, anyway. "Fine," he says, briefly looking up. "Thanks."
"Cesc says hi," Pique says, and he sounds so pleased and happy about it that Jack kind of wants to cry, or punch him, but he does neither.
Rooney
"Alright Tim?"
He has extricated himself from the awkwardness that was Gerard Pique and his thundering tactlessness, and wandered over to a quiet corner of the studio where Tim is sitting, drinking a beer. Tim nods at him. "How's it going?"
Wayne shrugs. "Yeah," he says. He sits down next to Tim, and they share a comfortable silence.
Pique
Pique doesn't know how much more he can smile at Wilshere. Cesc has talked a lot about Jack, what a great footballer he is, how nice he is, how happy he is, how much he likes puppies, and yet Pique is standing here, doing all he can to be friendly, and there is even a puppy to help him out, and yet! He's pretty sure Wilshere is on the verge of tears. Pique's kind of terrified. He only knows what to do when Cesc cries and that's cuddle him a lot. Pique's not afraid of physical affection between men, but he suspects that it would be inappropriate in this situation.
He looks to Kaka for support. Kaka catches his eye and gives Pique an encouraging smile.
"Cris would love this puppy," Kaka says. "He loves dogs." He reaches over to the puppy and scratches behind its ears. The puppy wriggles a lot and then, mercifully, as if Kaka has some kind of magic touch, it wriggles right out of its handler's arms and leaps into the arms of Jack Wilshere, who looks instantly blissed out.
"Oh my god," he says, and Kaka smiles. Pique practically runs from the conversation, and gets his phone out to berate Cesc.
Cahill
Tim isn't really into puppies, doesn't have a lot to say to anyone in the room, and is mostly just relieved that he had persuaded a runner to fetch him a beer. Thank god for displaced scousers in London. He sits next to Rooney, appreciates the solidarity in their silence, and waits to do his job.
Jack
Jack just loves puppies so much.
