Summary: AU. Kahlan sees new student Cara for the first time. First in a series of drabbles.
“Hey are you going to the party tonight?"
Kahlan Amnell turned to face one of her friends. “I’m not sure. I have tons of work to do.” She smiled a fantastic smile and all the boys within a ten foot radius heaved a wistful sigh.
“Come on Kahlan! You’re always working! You should let loose a little and have some fun!” All the other girls seemed to agree.
“Maybe some other night? I’m really…” She trailed off and seemed to be looking down the long hallway at someone.
“What are you looking at? Ohhh. Richard Cypher? He’s cute.” All the girls turned to shoot a glance at where Richard was standing with a tall lithe blond wrapped up in a worn leather jacket. She was staring at Kahlan with blazing eyes.
Kahlan nodded faintly and whispered, “Yeah. She is.” She shook her head quickly. “Who’s the girl he’s standing next to?”
“That’s the new girl Cara. She’s in my English class. She just sits there without a word and doesn’t acknowledge anyone. Richard’s the first person I’ve seen talking to her. He’s so sweet.” Soon the group of girls was chatting about the party tonight and who was going to be there. Everyone was chattering except Kahlan. She was still staring at the new girl.

As Kahlan walked out towards her car, she heard the loud revving of a motorcycle. She turned and her eyes landed on Cara who straddled a large black Harley. Kahlan watched as Cara gave her an almost indecipherable nod as she flipped a pair of aviators onto her face and pulled out of the space and drove away.
Kahlan smiled.
