Summary: AU. Rachel learns to see from someone who can't.

Blind? How could she be blind? It has been five hours since Rachel met Quinn in the music room and she couldn’t get her out of her head. She pulls her laptop towards her and opens an Internet browser. She opens Google and hesitates before typing in Quinn Fabray. A few short seconds later, the results appear on the page.

Most of the results are from over ten years ago. Almost all of them are old news articles. She opens a few. They all say relatively the same thing. Young piano prodigy loses eyesight in freak accident. She stares at a picture of a young, beaming Quinn standing in front of a piano with her parents. Her eyes are a clear hazel. She sits in a daze until she hears a ding from her phone.

----------------------

She was climbing the stairs onto the bleachers. Santana had told her to be up here at 3:00 but she hadn’t explained why. She stops when she sees Quinn Fabray sitting with her eyes closed on the bottom riser of the bleachers. She is even more surprised when Quinn turns towards her and smiles. “I have good ears. I could hear you clomping your way up.”

Rachel gasps. “I was not clomping! The metal amplifies the sound of my footsteps!”

Quinn giggles. “I’m just kidding Rachel. Calm down.”

“How can you expect me to not be defensive when you-wait how do you know my name?”

Quinn smirks. “Well I heard Santana saying that ‘that midget Berry’ was asking about me. I figured I should know when someone asks about me. So I asked Brittany about you. Rachel Berry. Voice like an angel. Mouth like a motor.”

Rachel flushes. She takes a seat near Quinn and sees a white cane propped up near her. She looks up into Quinn’s clouded eyes. How did she not see it before?

Quinn spoke as if she could read Rachel’s mind, “You shouldn’t feel bad for not noticing. Not many people do. Could I maybe feel your face? I know that sounds strange but it helps me to know what you look like.”

Rachel hesitates. “Umm…yeah. Sure. How do I…?” She scoots closer to Quinn and reaches for her hands and brings them up to her face. Her eyes flutter closed as she feels Quinn’s soft fingertips grazing her cheeks and she lets out a soft sigh. They sit there in complete tranquil silence until Quinn removes her hands from Rachel’s face.

“Hmm. You’re gorgeous.” She rubs her fingertips to her palms, as if she could still feel Rachel’s skin on them.

Rachel flushes a dark red. “Thank you. I mean-I know my nose is a little big for my face, but I feel it gives me character and shows my Jewish heritage.”

Quinn smiles. “Your nose is perfect. What color are your eyes?”

“Dark brown.”

“Like chocolate?”

Rachel can feel her face getting even hotter. “I guess so.”

“Mmm.” Her eyes close as she visualizes Rachel’s face. “Would you walk with me to the music room? I still don’t really have the hang of the campus yet. Aunt Sue has been training me. She wants me to know the layout of the school before I start classes.”

Rachel nods until she realizes Quinn can see her doing it. She stands and moves to Quinn’s side. Quinn picks up her cane with one hand and uses the other to grasp Rachel’s arm. “Why are you going to the music room? Are you going to use the piano again? Because now isn’t the best time. Glee Club starts in ten minutes.”

Quinn shrugs before she answers, “I guess you could say that. I’m playing for Glee now.”

Rachel stops abruptly but Quinn doesn’t even stumble. “What? Really? What happened to Brad?”

“He moved to Los Angeles. He was offered some job playing the piano on a TV show. So Aunt Sue asked if I wanted to do it and I said yes.”

Rachel raises an eyebrow. “Coach Sylvester actually did something to help us? That’s surprising.”

Quinn laughs. “I think it had more to do with me wanting to. We don’t have room for a piano at home. Too many trophies.”

Rachel giggles in agreement and they walk down the hallway. The only sound that can be heard is that of Quinn’s cane sweeping against the floor.

----------------------

They enter just as practice is about to start. Everyone glances towards the door to see who has entered, but they seem to only see Rachel. Suddenly, the entire club freezes and their heads turn slowly back towards Rachel and Quinn.

Puck lets out a low whistle. “Damn Berry! Who’s your sexy friend?”

Rachel scoffs, “You’re such a pig Noah.” She addresses the entire Glee Club. “This is Quinn Fabray. She’s going to be our new piano player.”

“Not only that Rachel. But I heard from Sue that Quinn here has quite a voice.” Mr. Schuester enters with his hands full of music.

Rachel sees a faint blush appear on the bridge of Quinn’s nose. “Why didn’t you tell me you could sing?”

Quinn smiles down at her. “Well I guess I couldn’t find time in the ten minutes we’ve known each other to tell you my life story.” Rachel feels herself blush and looks up to see Kurt looking at them with a curious look on his face. She coughs lightly and guides Quinn over to the piano before taking her seat at the front.

Mr. Schue claps his hands together. “Okay everybody. Let’s start with some scales. Quinn?” As Quinn begins to play and the kids begin to sing, Rachel can see her passion for music mirrored in Quinn’s eyes.

----------------------

As soon as practice ends, Finn approaches Rachel with his hands shoved deep in his pockets. “Hey Rachel.”

Rachel fidgets with the music in her hands and tilts her neck up to look at him. “Yes Finn?”

He scratches awkwardly at the back of his neck. “I was wondering if you were doing anything later tonight.”

Her eyes flit from the left to right looking for an escape. “Umm… Actually Quinn asked me to help her with the music. Maybe some other time?”

He looks disappointed and she shakes off her guilt. “Yeah. Sure Rach. See you later.” He turns and slumps out of the room.

Quinn plays a depressing tune and Rachel’s lips quirk in a small smile. “So I guess you’re helping me with the music?”

Rachel giggles lightly. “Yeah. Sorry about that. I just don’t know if I can deal with Finn right now. If you don’t need to help, I’ll just leave you to your playing.”

“No.” Quinn pats the empty space on the bench besides her. “Take a seat. I think I need a bit of help on the last arrangement.”

Rachel thinks back to twenty minutes ago when Quinn was flawlessly playing their last number. She grins and slides in close.
