I'm obviously very pro=emergency services myself, having worked in the profession as a soldier, police officer, and medic (although only briefly as the last).

I will say that American soldiers and police services attract more sadistic, brutal types than perhaps other countries' forces do, and I understand why people of color and poor people fear and mistrust the police.

I also have taken medications for depression and anxiety, and can put myself in the place of a person who could conceivably do things for which I would not be held legally responsible. It's not likely, but it could happen. But if it did, and I hurt someone, there is no way I would be happy about it later.

Exactly. It's like self-defence; while I like to think I would be able to act with all necessary force in self-defence, potentially killing someone, I don't believe (and don't want to believe) that I'd be happy about it. I'd be happy about living, I think, but not about the price.

Anyway. I think Aquarion's right, that it's a miscalculated attempt at injecting a bit of humour into a dismal situation. And I feel a bit better having vented too. :-)

I suspect - and hope - that you're right there. It just feels so unnecessary, in a culture where authorities are already so vilified.

But yeah, you're probably right. Which is why I held off on saying anything in-thread.

I think I know who you're talking about.

If it is the same guy, I find a couple of the things he says a bit disturbing too.
