As one of those jaded individuals who's gone through prom, I can't help but think it's a bit sad that China puts such an excessive value in the Olympics. It's also sad how China's need for perfection makes it so vulnerable. I mean the whole "exchange of ideas" and "open dialogue" is great, but there's some out-and-out grandstanding/blackmailing that's just low (eg, Spielberg's resignation from the Opening Ceremonies).
In unrelated news, did you hear there's a spike of children being named "Aoyun" (奥运) after the Olympics? Can you imagine how much grief an "Olympics Wong" would get on the playground?
