We've Promised, Right? | KyuMin | Fluff, romance | PG-13

They never stopped missing each other.

*

Even if it means that you have to hate me, I’ll accept it, if that means that I can get closer to you more than I am now.

-

“Got a problem?” he asked the tall guy furiously, leaving the guy stood still, frozen in his place. “N - no…”

“Damn. He’s good, Sungmin! He did finish all our homeworks in one night! Good job nerdy!” Sungmin chuckled, and gave the nerd guy a devious smirk. “So does it mean that we can ask for your help again the next time, Kyuhyun-sshi?”

Kyuhyun nodded, and looked down at his shoes. Well, the nod was a forced one, though, so that he won’t get beaten by the group of bullies again. His thick glasses already covered up with steam, since his tears were starting to pooled under his eyes.

Kibum, a guy from group of bullies suddenly came up to the front and pat his shoulders gently. “It must be hard on you, Kyuhyun. So don’t worry, you can go now.” And suddenly, an air of relief was filling his lungs. Everyone was whispering about Kibum’s, not trying to stop him though. Kyuhyun bowed to Kibum quite a few times, and in an obvious 90 degree bent before ran away with small steps back to his class, smiling.

Sungmin was staring at him, showing his disagreement in Kibum’s act. “And here goes another Kibummie’s nice play again.” Donghae, another member of the group suddenly let out an awkward laugh, clearly in an awkward situation at that time.

He was about to add some more of his points but just then, the bell rung, and they have to get going to the next class, which needs the homeworks that they asked Kyuhyun to do it for them. As Kibum was in the other class, he was going to the opposite way as the others, when he suddenly patted Sungmin’s shoulder slowly, and said;

“Treating him badly like this is not taking you to anywhere, Sungmin. And it’s an eyesore for me to watch a desperate you.”

-

Kyuhyun let out a long sigh. It’s not like he didn’t know who the bullies were. They are all his classmates in middle school. Especially the leader. Lee Sungmin.

He was a childhood friend. And on top of that, he was his crush. Nope, he is still Kyuhyun’s crush. He wondered about how Sungmin has come to hate him just like today since a few years ago, and there’s only a memory that could fit into the story.

It was when they were in kindergarten, where they were so close and never wanted to depart from each other. So they made a promise, to always be together in the future, and live with each other. And maybe it was because they were still kids, that they could not differ between the words, that they kept repeating the words of promise almost every day, and finally ended up saying that they wanted to be married to each other someday in the future.

And after one day, when they were in the elementary school, and still repeating the promise every day, that a teacher suddenly taught them something new in the class.

“Marriage is only between a man and a woman.”

And since then, Sungmin avoided him, and started to have new friends. As for Kyuhyun, being an introverted child as he usually is, started to guard his disappointment towards Sungmin’s behavior with books around him.

Hey, at least he excels in his studies like that.

But still, why must the teacher brings out the topic about marriage at that time? And why must Sungmin stay away from him like now? And now even bullying him in high school?

“I still like you, if you haven’t notice it yet, pabbo.”

-

The rooftop of building C is his favorite part. Why? Because from there, he could see Kyuhyun’s desk in his class. The first desk from the back, and the most left one. He could see him yawning, smiling, laughing, but most of the time, yeah Kyuhyun’s a boring guy; studying.

But still, he loves every parts of Kyuhyun, and Sungmin knows that it is quite hard for him now to suppress his feelings for the latter inside. Oh how he wish so hard to hug Kyuhyun right now. To buried his hands into the dark, thick hair of the latter, to put his hands around the slim waist, to kiss the pale face and lips, how Sungmin wished to be drawn into Kyuhyun’s charms forever.

“Told ya, it’s not going to work like this. Sooner or later he’ll hate you, Sungmin-ah.” Kibum suddenly spoke as he came out from the door. Sungmin acted like he didn’t hear a word from Kibum. Smiling, the latter walked and rested his body onto the fence, and looked up into the sky.

“You know that he loves you, right?” Sungmin clenched his fist. He was sure that if it wasn’t Kibum who spoke, he’ll already give him a piece of his martial art skills for asking him a direct question.

“No. Why should I know something like that? I’m not even sure if he’s a homo or not.”

“Ah, so you’re looking forward to know that, don’t you? I see, I see…so?”

“So what?? You’re pissing me off!!”

Sungmin was rushing to the door, thinking about going down back to his class, when he heard Kibum uttered something slowly;

“Cause if you’re still going to be like this, Cho Kyuhyun will definitely forgot about the promise that you made, don’t you think?”

And Sungmin just couldn’t help it but agree.

-

It was all the teacher’s faults that drove him to be like this. To distance himself from Kyuhyun, to accept his own feelings as if he never felt anything for the latter. And oh, did anyone ever mentioned that his house is actually only two houses away from Kyuhyun? They walked the same route back every day, and practically, bumped into each other quite often.

And the thing that almost broke his heart every time he saw Kyuhyun was Kyuhyun’s gentle smiles and greetings, despite the fact that he was damn scared with Sungmin at the school earlier. He wanted to kiss that smiling lips so badly, and hold the skinny man tight, be he just couldn’t. Not yet.

Because in his family, everyone’s aware of his condition. They check up on him every day. Asking about his study, friends, and especially on Kyuhyun. Whether he’s still attached to him or not.

This is all because of that damn teacher of their elementary school, who came to his house and inform about the promise that they made back then. How she saw all this as a way for the kids to go into the wrong path when they grew up.

He knew it back then, that the teacher was trying to split them up when she was teaching about the basic of a marriage. And he did told Kyuhyun one important thing, though. The thing that he doubts for Kyuhyun to still remember it.

-

He was day dreaming after the third period, when Kibum barged in and grabbed his hand. He was taking him to the computer lab, and put his onto a chair in front of a PC. Kyuhyun was looking at him with frightened eyes, when Kibum showed him what was on the screen using his mouth.

“Ah, this? It’s a new virus. As long as you didn’t put your thumbdrive into the USB slot, then it’s okay.”

“Really? But the files that I’ve saved in the computer?”

“Hurmm…sorry but that cannot be saved. The virus has already deleted it and turned it into a shortcut files, and if you’re trying to open it, the virus’ll spread all over the PC.”

“Ugh…thank god I didn’t put it into my thumbdrive yet.”

“Yeah, what a relief. Is that all? Cause I need to go back to my class for the next period.” Kibum smiled, and suddenly grabbed Kyuhyun’s hands. “Thanks a lot, man. I got some stupid phobia when it involves technology, y’know, scared if the computer will blow up in my hands and all, so thanks a lot.”

And put the blank nerdy boy into his arms. Kyuhyun was gasping, surprised by Kibum’s sudden act. But he still put up his smile and says it’s nothing to Kibum before he walked away. Kibum was smiling by himself, while at the back of the lab’s door, Sungmin was clenching his teeth, as his heart were filled with rage.

-

“Seriously, why did he call me to see the PC? It’s not like there’s no technician in the lab. Ah, maybe he was too panic to look for one.” Kyuhyun was thinking about Kibum’s act earlier when he saw Sungmin in front of him. Usually, he’ll greet Sungmin as usual, and this time, still, he’s going to do that.

As they were getting nearer to each other, Kyuhyun was going to lift his hand and say hi, when a girl came from behind Sungmin and hugged his arm dearly. Sungmin turned to face the girl and smiled, finally their lips bumped onto each other.

Kyuhyun’s heart fell to pieces. Well, again. It’s not like that was the first time. Sungmin had brought too many girls to his house as far as Kyuhyun can remember. But still, he would like to dream that one day, it would be him who were invited to Sungmin’s room, and to be kissed so dearly by Sungmin, just like that.

To love you in a distance like this, I never thought that it would be this hard. And painful.

-

The naked body next to him were stretching, and Sungmin was looking at it in disgust. It’s not because he hated women or whatsoever, but he just wished that it would be great if either him or Kyuhyun was born as a woman, then they would have in each other’s arms right now.

So much for an imagination, Lee Sungmin.

“Wait for me, Kyubear. Only two months left, and then we’ll be free. Just two months left.”

“My mom said that 18 is the right age to get married, Minnie.” Kyuhyun uttered as his were brimming with tears. sungmin wiped away the little crystal beads from Kyuhyun’s eyes and his, too. “My daddy said so, too. Do you really want to get married after we are over 18, Kyubear?” and the kid with dark eyes smiled, and nodded his head.

Sungmin just couldn’t help but smiled too. But then, he frowned. And Kyuhyun was wondering why, when he suddenly spoke;

“But we cannot be friends until we are 18.”

“Eh~~? Why??” Kyuhyun was wet with tears again, making Sungmin to feel slightly guilty in his heart.

“Don’t cry, Kyubear… we have to do this, or else we cannot be together at all…”

“Was it because my father slapped you? I’m sorry Minnie…I couldn’t do anything about it…” and he cried more in Sungmin’s shoulder. Gently, Sungmin patted his head and brushed his dark hair. “No Kyubear. It’s okay if I’m the only one who got hurt, I just don’t want you to be hurt too.”

“So, is this goodbye?”

“Yeah, but just for awhile.”

“Does this means, that starting tomorrow, we’re not friends anymore?”

“Yeah, I’m sorry.” Kyuhyun forced out a smile, and wiped his tears. Just bear with this for awhile wouldn’t hurt so much, right?

“Then it’s okay. I’ll wait for you until we’ve reached 18 together, Minnie.”

“Me too. Then, can I have a souvenir as a guarantee?”

“EH?? But I didn’t prepare any - nnh…”

Slowly, and so full of a child’s way, Sungmin planted their first kiss onto Kyuhyun’s small lips.

“Don’t have to buy me anything. My sister said that first kiss is the best gift. So I’m taking it from you.”

-

And with that kind of feelings, the time finally brought them near to the promised time. Studying hard for the university entrance exam, graduating high school and all, didn’t make Sungmin to forget about the promise.

But it’s different for Kyuhyun. In these two months, he had made up his mind. That he’ll learn to stop loving Sungmin. The truth is; Kyuhyun, being a dorky and nerdy as he is, has already forgotten about the pinky promise that they made in their childhood days. Doesn’t even have the slightest memory about it at all.

And with Sungmin’s playful attitudes with women, he just couldn’t make sure whether Sungmin was straight or not. He definitely cannot ask him directly about his sexual preference, right? Being the mean Lee Sungmin at school and all, doesn’t that mean you’re calling for a fist?

So when the closing ceremony of their senior year in the school ended, Sungmin quickly rushed towards Kyuhyun’s class, and looked for the latter, but failed. Kyuhyun wasn’t there.

“Ah, Cho Kyuhyun? He’s at the back of the C building. Hehe, some cute girl is going to confess to him today.”

Oh no. What if he accept it? What am I going to do?

And as he was nearing the place where Kyuhyun’s classmate told him, what he saw in front of him was the thing that he was praying he wanted to avoid.

Kyuhyun was kissing a girl. Nope. In this situation, and knowing how Kyuhyun really is, he assumed (he wished) that it was the girl who kissed Kyuhyun. With a pair of fierce eyes, he stomped his feet towards those two, and tossed away the girl from Kyuhyun’s side.

“What are you doing, Kyuhyun??”

Kyuhyun flinched a bit, but still trying to look at Sungmin directly in his eyes, shoving away his fears.

“That was exactly that I’ve been wanting to ask you.”

“Huh?”

“Why are you pushing my girlfriend like that?” Sungmin clenched his teeth and pushed Kyuhyun against the wall.

“What? Wanna punch me? Go on then! You never appreciate any girl that you’re dating with, so…so is it wrong for her to have another lover??”

Sungmin lifted his eyebrows, and so did the girl at the back. And then, they spontaneously answered;

“I don’t even know him/her.”

“Eh?” Sungmin finally realized Kyuhyun’s misunderstanding. He thought that Sungmin was mad that his girlfriend came and confessed to Kyuhyun, that Kyuhyun thought he wanted to end it that way.

“I’m not coming for her, you idiot. I’m coming for you.” And Sungmin finally kissed Kyuhyun’s lips to all his might. The kiss that they both actually have been waiting for a long time. But Kyuhyun still need more explanation on this.

“Wa - wait! Lee Sungmin! What is this, all of the sudden??”

“What what? We’ve promised, didn’t we?”

“What promise??? When??” Sungmin turned his head back, and saw the girl who looked seriously shocked by the thing that he did before to Kyuhyun.

“What? Got a problem? He’s mine, so shoosh!”

-

“Eh?? We did promise something like that? Why I didn’t remember anything about it?”

“How should I supposed to know? It’s all of your damn memory default!” Sungmin smirked as Kyuhyun sat next to him like a guilty person would do. But then, he lifted his head up, and stared at Sungmin.

“Wha - what?”

“But you’ve been sleeping with the girls in these times, don’t you? I mean, lots of them.” And Sungmin felt as the air around them turned dark. “I - I’m sorry. If I didn’t do that, my parents would suspect that I still got something for you. So…”

“You don’t really have to sleep with them! Just go out is fine!!” Kyuhyun unintentionally (?) smacked Sungmin’s head, and without him even realized, some of his tears fell onto Sungmin’s uniform. “Kyubear, don’t cry. I’m sorry.”

His hands were wrapping Kyuhyun’s shoulders, and he landed his head onto the tall boy’s body.

“We’ll be out of this town, and live together, Kyubear.”

“I missed you so much.”

“I missed you too. Really missed you.”

But at least you’ve already slept with some girls.” Sungmin never thought that Kyuhyun would be this jealous. And virgin. XD

“I’ve wanted to ask you this for a long time, Kyuhyun.” Sungmin spoke in a low voice, panting after they finished flowering each other’s mouth more than three minutes or so in the hidden part of the C block.

“What is it?”

“Let’s go to my house, into my bedroom. And I can show you the results of what I’ve been doing with the girls before this to you.”

“Really?" well, should he say that it was a dream come true?

-

“So, is it done?” Kibum asked when they met in a McDonald restaurant a few weeks later. Sungmin smiled, and nodded, and so did Kyuhyun. Donghae who was sitting next to Kibum suddenly blushed out of the blue.

“I never thought you’re being mean to him because you love him, Sungmin-ah.” He gulped down his last drop of Pepsi. “Well, we tend to be mean to the person that we like, don’t you think, Kyuhyun?”

“Ah? Ye - yes! We are. Uh…I guess so.” Kibum just couldn’t take it anymore. Kyuhyun was blushing in front of him and that was just adorable. He stood up and quickly pulled Kyuhyun into his arms. “You’re such a cutie!!”

Sungmin was about to punched him when Donghae suddenly did it first.

“If you’re going to do that everytime we meet them, then screw you!!” and he dashed out of the restaurant, ignoring Kibum’s calling from behind.

“Sorry, I guess he was jealous. Catch up with you guys later! Hae!!”

Sungmin and Kyuhyun fell down back on their seats.

“They’re dating?” Sungmin was still in a state of shock when Kyuhyun suddenly kissed his cheek.

“At least we’re alone now.”
