magnetic rose: memories of kyle mesnard

Hi everyone,

I made a private post with some memories of our friend Kyle Mesnard (1981-2006), and skamdar said,

Maybe we should all get together somehow sometime and tell each other all of our memories of Kyle as a tribute. That's kind of what we did for my friend... and it proved to be a good way of coping with the pain.

I said in return,

First off everyone *totally* stole what I was going to say *looks at wu and alex* so I guess I'll have to go with a backup (wanted to mention the sleeping incident too).

Anyway, a humorous memory I have is of Kyle talking about his "baby killing missile" and how he'd get wu to program a facial recognition program, the comp e's to build the hardware and him making the missile portion.

Yeah a stupid and goofy memory, but it sums up his personality to me. An easy-going and fun guy albeit a bit morbid.

My clearest memory of Kyle is also one of my earliest. Kyle was one of the participants on the 'night of cool'. Which wasn't very cool. But a bunch of us went in search of adventure. Kyle, Wang, at least two other people, and me. We wandered around that night, and generally had a good time just bullshitting with each other. I remember a balcony full of girls, and the suggestion was that someone should shout "We're looking for some...", well, the word's not the best. But Kyle shouted it without hesitation. He had no fear, and didn't let social convention get in the way of amusing himself and everyone else.

I remember the good times freshman year when we all went to Italian Kitchen and then play Smash Bros. Kyle would always choose Link, one of the worst characters in the game, and he would get beaten every time. Daniel would constantly give him shit about how shitty of a character Link was and he didn't care. He was just really loyal to Link.

I was also a TW5N-er who lived on the floor with Kyle for a couple years. Maybe I didn't know him as well as some, but a few memories stand out. I remember that for a time, Kyle used to go to the gym with me, and also Seth. We used to routinely share laughs about the bizarre hip-hop music they'd play (there was one song called "Shake and Bake" that sticks in my head), or the social rituals surrounding the gym, things like that. Kyle was a good guy, laid back, friendly, someone who I always liked to be around.
