MRI results

So, it turns out I did dislocate my knee, and I haven't had an ACL for 14 years. That explains why I was convinced I had dislocated my knee and why my physical therapist thought I had no ACL.

On some level, I feel vindicated. You would think that if you dislocated a joint, you would know it. Well, I did. And no one believed me. I was laying there on the field with my knee out of joint. My coach saw that my knee was out of joint. I felt it pop back into place as I was being helped off the field. I have felt it pop out of joint and pop right back in probably 40 times since then. And doctors have been trying to convince me that wasn't what I really felt for 14 years.

I still feel like I have a great orthopedist now. He explained to me perfectly why the exam he gave me didn't support the idea that I had dislocated my knee and torn my ACL. It just goes to show that medicine is not an exact science. But I will never let a doctor tell me I didn't feel something that I know I felt again.

Unfortuntely he really had me believing that this wasn't a possibility, and I was not prepared for hearing the news last night. It is interesting how some things hit you harder than you expect.

So I have an appointment with an Hawaiian surgeon on Friday. Unfortunately it's in Pittsburgh. I've been reading up on what needs to happen, and I am certainly looking forward to seeing my MRI. I'll know more then.
