Jack was in a car accident in 1996. A young driver ran a red light and struck the driver's side of the car Jack was driving. He was knocked unconscious with his foot down on the gas pedal, and the car then hit a building. On Sunday, I got to tell my cousin that her father had woken up from his "deep sleep"/coma. Then I got to tell my father that his brother had woken up. I had gone to the hospital in Indianapolis alone on my way back to Pittsburgh from Columbus. The neighbors are putting in a pool. It has been interesting to watch, but it has gotten pretty old. It turned out that they had to take out the short retaining wall between our yards in order to put in a french drain (and because it started collapsing into our yard during the initial digging). I'm going on a road trip tomorrow! I'm heading down to NC to see Katrina/Lee/Elijah, and then K, E and I are going to the beach (Wilmington). Yum. Seafood at the beach. I just shined my kitchen sink, and I'm exhausted.

As of Thursday I could walk without crutches, I could drive, and I didn't have to wear my brace anymore. It's still weird that I can go anywhere I want when I want, and I still feel like I forgot to put on pants or something without my brace on, but life is good! Surgery went very well on the 30th. I decided to go with general anesthesia, so I don't have much to say about the surgery itself. I also went for a nerve block which kept my leg completely numb for most of 24 hours, so I have no stories of intense pain to share. Overall, I think I got off pretty easy ( Read more... )

I stated a garden design for our backyard several weeks ago. I haven't touched it in a while, and while I have attributed that to the fact that I'm having surgery and won't be able to garden for a little while, I think the real reason is that I am overwhelmed.
