Martha stared at the Security update from the Chief on her screen and whistled through her teeth. No wonder it was marked high priority. Chances were pretty good she'd either be protecting the new arrivals from people, or, which would be potentially much, much worse, trying to protect people from them ( Read more... )

I've just hired Jim Kirk as our new recreational coordinator, and forwarded your proposal to him. I gave him quite a stack of paperwork to look through, so you might want to send him a message to let him know that it's there and you're waiting for a response.

Martha checked her PADD when it beeped, and let out a breath of relief.

"Just a second," she told Paul, and tapped out a quick message.

RE: Hide and Seek Proposal

Mr Kirk,

I'm just learned you're the new recreational coordinator. Congratulations!

Commodore Otrona tells me that she handed off a proposal I made about a station-wide hide and seek proposal to you. I would like to know what you think of it, whenever that's convenient.

Ensign Landon,

Your proposal sounds delightful. I wouldn't have thought of it myself, but I think a certain amount of controlled chaos may be just what this place needs. I don't know what your schedule is like, but I'd love to work with you on setting it up. My time is pretty flexible, as you can imagine.

Jim,

Oh, that's great! I come off shift in six hours, would you like to meet in the cafeteria then?

Martha.

Jim was prompt, meeting Martha. In fact, he was a few minutes early; enough to get them both hot chocolate and pull up the station plans on his padd. It was an interesting idea, and Security would be essential--they didn't want people hiding or seeking anyplace sensitive or dangerous.

Martha headed directly there after debrief, and was delighted to see Jim already waiting, an extra hot chocolate just for her.

"You are a very kind man and I like you," she told him solemnly, pulling the mug closer and taking an appreciative sniff.

Jim smiled.

"I took a chance," he said. "But then, I don't think I trust anyone who doesn't like hot chocolate. Thanks for the suggestion--and for meeting with me. I'm just getting a handle on the paperwork, so it's good to get a jump-start."

"Oh, my pleasure."

Martha spotted the plans brought up on Jim's PADD and nodded. "So you've been thinking about areas we want to make no-go zones?"
