Thoughts on Stephen Lewis' "Pandemic"

As North Americans, it is all too easy to ignore the strife and struggles that other third-world countries endure. Stephen Lewis does an exemplary job in describing the troubles and heartache that Africans are faced with, and it is not difficult at all to sympathize with him. I agree that most North Americans as well as other first-world countries take what we have for granted. Knowledge is a great step in solving problems, so the target audience of students makes perfect sense, as well as other people not residing in Africa. The other part though is educating Africans themselves in prevention methods and other pertinent information regarding AIDS. Hopefully with more people informed and more people helping, one day Africa will be back to the Africa Lewis fell in love with.
