Jacob's Journey Begins.

Sep 17, 2008 13:23

Jacob's appointment at BC Children's Hospital yesterday was supposed to be the last one, until next year. This is no longer the case.

Upon examination, they found a dense cataract had formed in his right eye, meaning the lens had clouded over, obscuring his vision. They also found the beginnings of one in his left eye.

Jacob will be having surgery in November to remove the affected lens. Due to is age, they cannot implant a new lens, until he is about 3 or four. This means that he will have to wear glasses, thick glasses that are designed to do the job his lenses are meant for. When he is three or four, they will implant a permanent lens and prescribe him glasses that he will probably have to wear for th rest of his life. The false lens will remove his ability to fiocus, so his glasses that he gets in a few years will be specially made to do that job too. They will be trifocal progressives.

I'll update when we know about the surgery

My dear friend Sylvia has created a Facebook group for those who wish to be updated about my little man. I'll keeep posting here for those of you who don't have facebook.
