i think the canon rebel is a good starting point. i own one and it's always treated me well. I cant say much for other brands never really used them, ive always been true to canon
I used to have a Canon AE-1. that was my first camera, and I used it for 2 years when I took photography in high school. the shutter eventually broke though, and it would have cost more to fix the shutter than what I paid for it. so, I just sold it to someone else for a fair price that new how to fix cameras.
I've never used a Rebel, but I think your right- and I'll probably start with that!
Congrats on the 20D, since I got my D1, I shoot ten times as much. Just about to hit 10k on the frame counter! BTW: Good train! I've always wanted to shoot Cajopne, but I'm stuck on the east coast, I'll have to stick to Horse Shoe Curve and Sand Patch!
I joined your community, i think you told me before but i must have spaced out. if my 20D arrives today i'll be heading up to tehachapi tomorrow morning (rain permitting) If you ever make it out to the west coast let me know, you could teach me a few tricks :)

I'm quite happy with my S70, and was thinking of getting a regular SLR. That digic SLR looks pretty cool. Wish I could afford it!
In your opinion, which regular good-old-fashioned film SLR's would you recommend the most? Canon Rebel? Nikon?
