Title: Trust the shifting sea
Summary: Loyalty can't be earned in a day.
Author's Notes: For geeksicle_kezzy. Set during OYL Teen Titans, before the resurrection of Jericho.
Title from this poem. Thanks to glossing and __marcelo for beta.
Disclaimer: I do not own any characters described herein; DC has all.

It's important to know his new team just as well as -- better than -- he knew his old, strengths and weaknesses both of the group and individuals. These Titans lack a speedster. Flash is -- Tim misses Kid Flash. He misses *Impulse*.

To be entirely honest, he misses Young Justice. He knows exactly where Cissie is, how easy it would be to contact her. He knows how much Anita spent on food suitable for young toddlers in the past month.

Greta took first place in a national mathematics competition two months ago. Tim's year off had made it inadvisable for him to take part.

Tim's year off -- and Robin's -- had done a great deal.

He does not have time to be sentimental, he has been putting off making more than inferences on the Titans for the past week. Robin continues making notes in a bastardized Russian shorthand, grateful for the soundproofing in his room that lets him not be distracted by the others.

He has surprisingly little experience dealing with someone like Kid Devil. Batman's notes on Jason Blood and on Blue Devil are not, actually, particularly helpful, nor are the saved letters Jason had exchanged with him.

Surprisingly enough, Ravager is the most useful member of the Titans when dealing with him. They seem to have a bond.

The basic research Tim has done -- and past basic -- has not been enough to explain Kid Devil's occasional bouts of melancholy, nor why he seems to seek out Rose Wilson. But his company seems to soothe her more ferocious tendencies, and when he is with her his smiles are less like snarls.

So long as Ravager is loyal to the Titans, Robin has no worries about their safety regarding Kid Devil. He wishes he was more certain of Cyborg.

It feels like a betrayal to think that.

He was not here to see the way the teams fell apart during his departure and Cyborg's -- "coma" is not the correct word. "Time offline" is not accurate, either.

He does not know the potential repercussions of Cyborg being rebuilt. He doubts that there will be any, but the Outsiders had thought reprogramming Indigo would not have any repercussions.

Robin does not know Cyborg perfectly now.

He knows Wonder Girl. The year apart... he no longer knows her quite so well. Cassie is harder now, angrier. More bitter.

She is no less loyal than before, either to the world or to -- Kon.

Each time he thinks of the Titans, he inevitably circles around to Kon. Each time he thinks of Cassie. Looking at her, there are times he imagines he can hear faintly the rush of Kon's approach.

She is too good a warrior, an ally -- a friend -- to be so reduced. She deserves to have him think of her as herself, instead of as a living memorial.

Tim does not put that in his notes. Wonder Girl is far less loyal to him than she was in the past. She has reason to be.

Tim reminds himself, again, that he should at some point discuss that extremely ill-advised kiss.

He should also at some point discuss Ravager's apparent attraction to him, though not with Wonder Girl. She might be helpful in understanding Ravager, but her undoubted insight will be clouded by their dislike of each other.

If what Rose really wants is Robin, Tim will be very shocked.

He does not know her history as well as he would like. Before the deaths of her foster parents, Robin and Rose Wilson had interacted extremely rarely. Afterwards, the most information he had had was the rumors everyone else knew. Batgirl had sent back very little information regarding Ravager before beginning her quest to find her mother.

Tim had tried, very hard, not to think of Jason when Cass left. He is faintly amused that Lady Shiva was not Jason's mother, but Cass'.

He misses Cass. At least with Jason there had been a memorial.

There are steps that will need to be taken. Tim does not believe Bruce's nonchalance any more than he believes whatever has caused Cass' sudden shift of loyalties is over.

For one thing, if Ravager hears of it, she will undoubtedly try to hunt Cass down, and Nightwing had sent her to the Titans in an effort to keep her safe.

Robin is unsure whether she would go after an ex-Bat assassin in an attempt to bring her to somewhat dubious justice, or to revenge a previous loss. The uncertainty worries him.

Dick would not have sent her to Tim if he believed that she would be a threat.

Dick has also been known to trust her father. Robin doesn't plan to let Dick's trust influence his own.

There are times he wonders whether Stephanie would have been a good influence on Rose. Contemplating their possible interactions makes his mouth twitch.

Sometimes when Ravager is laughing with Kid Devil, he has been reminded -- far too strongly for his own comfort -- of Steph. Her determination, the tones of hatred trying not to be love when she speaks of her father, even her despair... Rose is very familiar.

Robin had never considered a betrayal by Spoiler possible, nor Tim by Robin -- none of them, including the fourth, not truly, despite the painful -- *redundant* -- lesson of his sixteenth birthday. But though he does not wish to, he starts making plans for Ravager's.
