Oh. Oh, *Zoe*.

She's so stoic, so *herself*, but the entire crew can tell she's grieving just like we can.

Weeks go by and they find themselves in the black again, something she is more grateful for than she can possibly say, even though she feels a stir of wrongness about the ship every time she passes the bridge and sees the Captain and River there looking out at the vast empty of it all. Comes a day, finally, when River turns to look at her over the back of the chair, and Zoe can’t find a spot inside her that doesn’t know he’s gone. River doesn’t say anything, just cocks her head and gives her that sad smile. She walks away, but the next time she finds herself there, she steps inside the door and goes to look through the windows. There is nothing out there that she hasn’t seen before, but she is seeing it alone again, and that’s something.This entire paragraph makes me make small flaily noises, because of *course* Zoe would rather be out in space again, out working and surrounded, and of course every time she sees River at ( ... )

I received Remembered Stitches, which is Zoe gen that made me reach for a tissue. IMO, it's perfect post-BDM Zoe: not sappy, but still grieving. Ny? I think you'll love this story.

Thank you! I have to admit, the idea seemed odd to me when I started writing it, but as I progressed it just seemed more and more like something she would have learned growing up. I don't picture Zoe as someone particularly given to adopting the lotus position for her meditation, but I could see her taking up an activity that offered her the same kind of methodic, calming headspace.

This is just gorgeous and powerful, and so true to Zoe in ways I'd never imagined. Every bit feels *right* and *real* and I just love it.

Hi! I just read this after someone on my f-list posted a link to the comm. I haven't read much Firefly fic but I love the show and I've always wanted to read a good fic about what Zoe does after. This was so lovely and sad and felt really true to the character and the voice of the show. I really loved it.
