Ah, 28/11, what a funny little date in my life you are. When I was informed that I would know the status of my Honours application by the 1st of December, I should have known that I would find out today. The application was pretty much a formality, but I was nonetheless quite excited to open the mail and read that I have been accepted to Honours ( Read more... )

Congratulations and welcome to the ranks of the undergraduate elite, André. ;)

I'm curious - what is the required length for your Honours thesis? Mine has to be between 10,000 and 15,000 words (so roughly 60 pages in MLA format). I'm impressed that you already know what you are writing on. Ideas are still bouncing around in my mind and coming to little fruition...

The required length here is 12,000 words, with 10% leeway over or under (knowing me, I'll probably get close to the 14,000). The fact I know what I'm writing on is a bit less impressive when you consider that to be accepted to the Honours year, I had to provide a 300 word summary of my thesis, a list of relevant primary sources, and an annotated bibliography of relevant secondary sources. I suppose I'm also lucky in that there are HUGE research gaps in New Zealand history, so it wasn't hard for me to find something I'm interested in researching. I feel like everywhere I turn, I find substantial work of some sort or another is missing.
