I came across something recently on the Pattern Review forums about this. Check the first post after the initial question post. Not sure if it will help, but I've read about this "directional sewing" thing on a few sites when looking for solvent to puckered hems.

I'll try to remember to look up in all my big bad books of sewing to see if there's anything useful there.

That's funny, I read that same post earlier in the night while trying to find my solution. I don't think the directional stitching will fix my problem, since it's just a giant hem. When I was testing out different tensions I just kept sewing around the hem in sections, and breaking up the stitching in to little parts (maybe.. 8" sections) didn't help.

I think I'm going to have to hand sew :( I'm going to first try to stretch the fabric while I sew, but I don't have a lot of hope for that method. But I'll give it a whirl.

I have read that stitch length may be the issue. try smaller stitch length. You may have already found the answer lol.

Thanks! (Who is this??)

If I had to go back, I think I would decrease the hem width. That seems to have fixed similar problems.
