Summary: In which Minho is in Canada, and Taemin starts a war.

"When are you coming home?" Taemin munched on the popcorn with angry little bites. On his usual smiling face is a fierce frown. "What? But that's too long!"

"Taeminnie, have you done your homework?" Taemin jumped a little at Key's shouted question. He scrambles from the bed, then frowns again at what he hears from the phone, not hearing footsteps rapidly getting nearer to the closed bedroom door.

"But hyung, I really miss you--" The door slams open.

"Taemin-ah? You--aish--" Key's annoyed frown turns into a fully-fledged glare. "Taemin." His umma stalks closer, and Taemin panics.

"Jinki-hyung!" The leader is ever-efficient at saving the day, and quickly enters the scenario, his grand entrance made a failure by him tripping on the rug. But Key is not in the mood to sing the "Onew Sangtae" song, simply rolling his eyes then turning that glare at Taemin again.

"Lee Taemin, what have I said about long-distance calls?" Key only called Taemin by his full name when he was really, really annoyed. Struck speechless, Taemin throws a desperate look at Jinki, who clears his throat.

"Now, now Kibum, poor Taemin just misses Minho-ah--" Jinki slams his mouth shut when Key turns that malevolent glare at him.

"I don't care. Minho should know better than distract Taemin from his homework."

"B-B-B-But I've already done my homework," Taemin squeaks out meekly. Jinki jumps at this opening.

"See? Taeminnie's done his homework--"

"Whose side are you on?!""

All the way to Canada, Minho holds the phone an inch from his ear at Key's roar. He sighs, wondering when Key, as Taemin's 'umma', was ever going to accept his relationship with Taemin. Amidst the squabbling happening at the other side of the planet, Minho gives up and ends the call.

----------------------------------------------

Taemin is banned from using the phone to make international calls, so he comforts himself with emailing Minho every hour, asking what Minho was up to, what he ate for breakfast, what he ate for lunch, what he ate for dinner, what he was doing, and ending every email with "Are you coming home soon?". Minho opens his email inbox every night to see it flooded with Taemin, Taemin, Taemin, Taemin...

Minho is not really surprised at this behaviour. Key was much the same when he was away from Jinki, ranging from Jinki having a separate schedule to Jinki stepping out for a few minutes to buy something from the store.

Like mother like son, or rather, like daughter, Minho thinks with resignation as he replies to the 20th email.

Taemin was a creature who constantly needed contact and comfort to survive. Minho's primary role in his life was to provide this, and his current absence was beginning to affect the little maknae, who began to search for a temporary replacement.

An effective way seemed to be publicly broadcasting the request. "I want a hug." He was immediately granted one by his umma, which he expected. But it wasn't quite the same as Minho.

Perhaps instead of requesting, he should do the instigating, he thought to himself that evening, going over to Jonghyun and hugging his hyung from behind. Jonghyun looked surprised, and awkwardly gave him pats on the back, then quickly pushed Taemin away before Key could hack him to pieces with the kitchen knife.

So Jonghyun was out of the picture because of his overprotective umma; there was no one left but...

"Jinki-hyung?"

"Hmm?" Jinki looked up from the book he was reading, giving the maknae a sweet, distracted smile. Taemin smiled back before wiggling next to his hyung, cuddling the older boy. Jinki blinked in surprise, but was familiar with the maknae's touchy-feely nature.

"Taemin-ah? Is there a problem?" Oh, he was as warm as Minho, Taemin thought happily. And he smelled nice. He cuddled closer, and Jinki stroked his head gently. "Taemin-ah?"

"No, I'm just cold." Jinki didn't seem bothered by the cuddle, so Taemin stayed there, slowly falling asleep.

----------------------------------------------

If there was one person who got away with virtually anything and everything in the SHINee household, that would be Taemin.

Key, as the supreme king (or should it be queen) of said house, ruled with an iron first and subjected anyone to his fury if he was displeased by anything. Except of course, Taemin, because Taemin was the prince.

The household's inhabitants had long since accepted this situation with a mix of resignation and fear.

Jinki, on the other hand, was the hybrid character. On one hand, he could be completely whipped by the diva and seemed to always get himself into trouble by his clumsiness, but on the other hand, Jinki had a special position that no one else had.

He was, well, the 'queen's' lover.

No one had foreseen it ever occuring, but when it did, it was as if a nuclear bomb was suddenly dropped onto the dorm and completely blasted them to oblivion.

Jonghyun had never thought he'd see the day that Key would be jealous of his own son.

It was quite innocent at first. Taemin was a very affectionate person, and everyone was a regular recipient of his hugs and cuddles. But when Taemin began to single out Jinki, the atmosphere began to change.

It began with simple hugs here and there, then extended to cuddling on the couch while watching TV. The simple situation gradually worsened when Taemin dared to interrupt the lovers' 'special time'.

It was a cold day, and Key and Jinki cuddled under a thick quilt on the sofa, trying to keep themselves warm. Key was grateful for the older boy's heat, cuddling closer and smiling shyly when soft lips pressed a kiss on his forehead. They sat there in silence for a moment, their fingers intertwined and eyes closed, their breaths mingling with each others--

"I'm so cold--" A blast of cold air hit the pair as the blanket was tugged off.

Key's eyes snapped open, fire blazing on the midnight orbs. No one ever, ever, ever interrupted 'special time' unless they were asking for a death wish. He swivelled his head to face the offender, and met the maknae's eyes.

If it were Jonghyun, a quick death would have sufficed. Even President Lee Soo Man would have met his end if he dared interrupt. Anyone would have.

Anyone but Taemin.

Jinki looked up as well. "Taemin-ah?" Key gaped wordlessly as the maknae cuddled next to Jinki, his thin frame shaking.

"I'm so cold, hyung."

"Oh, I see." Jinki tugged the blanket back up, and wrapped it on the maknae and on himself. The blanket came short when it reached Key. Jinki blinked.

Key looked ready to kill.

"Ah. 'Minnie? Could you possibly move to the bedroom or something--"

"I don't want to, umma, Jinki-hyung is much warmer~"

Later in the kitchen, Key was still reeling from the shock of being kicked out of his own 'special time' that he didn't even notice Jonghyun drinking straight from the milk carton.

Jonghyun fervently hoped Taemin wouldn't pull off another crazy stunt like that. After the 'Interruption' incident, as Jonghyun had dubbed it, Key had seemed to be in a daze for at least a day, and this meant having to eat cereal and toast throughout the day as Key had locked himself in the room.

Eventually, of course, with Key's feline instincts he managed to get back on his feet, brushing off the incident as if it hadn't happened. Peace once more reigned in the household.

Until the next incident.

Everyone was getting settled in their beds, ready to sleep. Jonghyun was already half-asleep, Key and Jinki were cuddling on Jinki's bed, and Taemin was still in the bathroom, brushing his teeth.

Key jumped a little when he felt a hand on the waistband of his pajama bottoms, and looked up to see Jinki's mischievous smile. He put on a haughty expression, slapping the hand away and wagging a finger. "Not until the lights are off."

"But Bummie~" Jinki seemed to be in a 'mood', and he tackled Key to the bed, bending to nibble on the younger boy's neck as his hands busily began to unbutton Key's shirt. Key playfully tried to fight him off, but at this point was quite aroused as well, and his hands made their way to Jinki's pants--

The lights suddenly switched off, and the two stopped for a second. They waited a beat, and after assuming that the maknae was settled on his bed, Jinki's hands got busy again. Key stifled a moan, cuddling closer--

Wait a minute. Jinki wasn't that bony...

Key scrambled up the bed, quickly turning on the bedroom lamp. It couldn't possibly be--

Both hyungs gaped at the sight of Taemin wedged comfortably between them. Taemin blinked sleepily, and smiled.

"You don't mind, do you, umma?" Key swallowed the screech threatening to escape, and grabbed his pillow and blanket.

Key slept in the guest room that evening.

Minho checked his inbox again, scrolling down the daily influx of emails from Taemin, and suddenly frowned. After Taemin, Taemin, Taemin, it was suddenly Kibum, Kibum, Kibum, Kibum...

Every email had the same message: "Get home soon."

----------------------------------------------

Jinki himself would admit that he was slow. He didn't immediately catch on to a change of atmosphere, completely oblivious when he would make a perfectly normal situation awkward (more commonly known as 'Onew Sangtae').

Just as oblivious as he was to Taemin's sudden special attention, and Key's darkening aura.

Eventually, of course, his brain catches up. The little things add up, until he finally realizes something is wrong.

First, refusal of cuddles. Key was a very feisty boy that hid a shy side that got embarrassed at public displays of affection; Jinki exploited this discovery whenever possible, sneaking a hug or a peck on the cheek here and there just to see the younger boy blush. Normally he'd get a light slap or nudge as punishment, but he knew this made Key happy.

His normal morning cuddle this morning while Key was cooking breakfast, however, was acknowledged with a painful elbow jab on the stomach, with a snappy, "Not while I'm cooking, please."

Jinki was bothered and upset, of course, but one with a sunny disposition and a positive outlook in life was never upset for long. He resolved to forget the incident, putting it down to Key having one of his bad mornings.

The second incident came when it was time for their 'special time'. 'Special Time' was sacred, and albeit Taemin's frequent interruptions, Jinki never saw any reason to stop doing it. 'Special Time' was at least an hour where they would just sit together and talk about their worries, or not talk at all - what mattered was they were together.

Key didn't turn up for 'special time' that evening, and Jinki simply got news from Jonghyun that Key was already asleep. Asleep at 9pm, in the guest bedroom nonetheless. Taemin came to cuddle again, but Jinki was upset.

Jinki was a regular man, of course. And a man had needs, needs that were met by a lover, which luckily, Jinki had.

Those needs hadn't been met for a few days now. Ever since the first bedroom interruption, Key had been sleeping at one of the guest rooms, the door firmly locked. Jinki appreciated the fact that the maknae wanted someone to cuddle with when sleeping, but, well, Jinki wanted Key.

Fast becoming desperate, Jinki finally realizes the gravity of the situation.

Minho checked his inbox, scrolling down the emails from Taemin, and also the bulk of emails from Key. He frowns when he sees a new name; Jinki-hyung. Now even Jinki-hyung was emailing him?

"Hello Minho-ah, I hope you're keeping well there, when are you coming home? I hope you come home soon, we all miss you."

Somehow Minho didn't think he'd be missed this much.

----------------------------------------------

Minho's arrival date was like the coming of the Messiah. (Excuse my religious pun.) Everyone waited with abated breath when the door slowly opened, and Minho stepped inside the dorm.

He had barely put down his bags when Taemin pitched forward with a happy screech, nearly tackling him to the ground. Minho was surprised that Key wasn't glaring a hole through him right now, and was even more surprised when Key pushed the maknae away and hugged Minho himself. Minho blinked in confusion, awkwardly patting Key's back.

"I missed you, Minho-ah."

"Uh, thank you, Kibum...?" Jinki-hyung suddenly came as well, hugging him hard. Jonghyun pushed the two away and hugged him, and his hyung was almost in tears.

Taemin finally got Minho back. Jinki finally got Key back. Key finally got Jinki all to himself again.

And Jonghyun was finally going to able to eat something other than toast and cereal.

As the four hugged Minho tightly, Minho was touched.

"It's good to be home, guys."
