We met at the filming of Shounen Club; both still young and awkward.

Both of us smiled to each other.
At the end of the day, your number is safely saved in my phone.

At the press conference of JUMP, I sneaked a look at you.
I caught you doing the same.
Both of us blushed under the harsh camera lights snapping away at us.

I didn’t think that you’d be the one to make the first move.

After school, you asked to study with me at my home.
I said yes.
On the way back, I can feel you swinging your hand back and forth until it barely touches mine. You did it again for a couple of times until you clasped my hands in yours.
I looked at our intertwined hands and turned the other way.
I figured you did the same but your grasp on mine never did falter.

“I like you, Ryosuke.”

We first kissed in the middle of studying, papers fell on us and pencils clattered around us.
It wasn’t the ideal situation but it was the perfect moment for me.
That night, I wished upon a star that things won’t ever change between us.

Sometimes I felt like grabbing you into the spotlight.
You once joked that you’re never going to be a big star like I am. I thought your kindness already did make you the biggest star to me.
I’d throw a fit and say you deserved it as much as I do.

On most of our day off, I’d see you practice your drums for hours until you can’t make a sound anymore.
You told me you’re helping out your brother with homework but I can always tell the lies behind your words when you said it.
I always wondered why you felt the need to lie to me.

I panicked.
When you woke up, you told us it was due to dehydration.
It was spring.

You fainted again during one of our study sessions.
The ambulance took you away in a flurry of red lights and the ringing of siren.
I stayed up the entire night at the hospital only to be ushered away in the morning by a worried Yabu.

“I was just tired, don’t worry.”
You brushed off your incident with a smile that doesn’t quite reach your eyes.
Ne, Yuto, you’d tell me if something is wrong, right? I thought to myself.

We were out in town that day.
I said I wanted to eat ice-cream at the place we usually frequent and you wanted to go to the music store to buy another set of drum sticks.
“I’ll be back soon, okay?”

I didn’t even get to taste the ice-cream when I heard the screeching noise of a car stopping to a halt and few loud gasps from the pedestrians nearby.
All I saw was blood staining the road.

“Yama-chan, you can’t keep doing this to yourself,” chided Chinen softly to me.
He tried to grab the drum sticks away from me but I yanked it away from him.
I didn’t cry that day.
I didn’t cry for a week.

I place his drum sticks on my desk.
His pencils from our last study session left untouched. The only thing I cleared up was our homework. But even those, I can’t find it in me to put away so they’re left in the open with unfinished problems and hanging stories.
Maybe I’m still waiting for him.

“I’ll be back soon, okay?”
He promised.
I’m going to wait for him. I’m keeping all of his stuff, just in case.
