1.
It’s her first day of high school.
She walks into the building with hopes and anxiety that are shared with other new students for that year. She’s going to make the best of it.
2.
She befriends two girls on her first day; Nocchi and A-chan.
They’re nice. Nocchi is kind of snarky but she’s lots of fun. A-chan is your typical bubbly girl and she’s probably the only one excited for everything on orientation.
3.
Her first day of class consists of ice-breakers (“Hi, Kashino Yuka desu.””Hi, Kashiyuka.”) and some games to refresh and recall your middle school texts.
(She finds this more than weird. Nocchi simply shrugs and A-chan is going through her middle school notebook.)
4.
On her first day of school, the school’s DJ catches her attention.
She’s not the type to care about the announcer, but his voice got her to listen to him with rapt attention.
When she first heard it, she thought his voice was very girly, with his high-pitched wails on some points and Nocchi thinks he might be a she with a raspy voice.
A-chan hits them both.

On her first day, the guy with the girly voice talks of not losing way in the school ("because if you do, you'll be left with the unwanted misshapen breads and squished cakes!" he says cheerily through the intercom) and a little about the school curricular activities ("the soccer team would love to have you on the team! So join the soccer teaaam!" he says with lots of enthusiasm before promptly being reprimanded by someone and mutters a muffled 'sorry' that she feels like he doesn't really mean it).
She finds herself looking forward to his voice throughout the day.

Nocchi says she’s in love with the guy.
A-chan thinks it’s romantic, like straight out of a shoujo novel.
Kashiyuka thinks they both are being ridiculous and silly.

That doesn’t stop her from recording some of his announcements and replaying them over and over again at home.

One her first week of school, she realises she might have a slight tad (“You like him; a lot. Just admit it,” says Nocchi) crush on him. But she’s not going to admit it in front of Nocchi and A-chan.
Nocchi will tease her endlessly in her own way.
(and that’s scary enough.)
A-chan will make up stories how they would meet for the first time and how he would already have a girlfriend but in the end it’ll be the two of them together.
(“You read too much shoujo manga, A-chan” says Nocchi, while flipping through a Suzumiya Haruhi light novel.)
She’s not going to tell them.
8.
Nocchi was the first one to find out.
She forgot she set her ringtone to his voice.
Nocchi tells her to just tell him.

A-chan says to leave him a note. That’s much simpler (“It’s so romantic” she sighs).
She contemplates it.

The first time she did it, he mentions it during lunch time.
(“I think I got a secret admirer. Thanks for the encouraging note, K-san!” she somehow feels like she can see his smile through the speaker.)
Nocchi keeps nudging her and A-chan is still sighing.
Kashiyuka buries herself in her lunch.

The second time she did it, he announces that he’d like to meet her.
(“Nee, K-san. Maybe we can meet up today? I’d like to meet-“ he was cut off by another person with a whack because everyone covered their ears due to the high-pitched noise coming from the speaker. She could hear the other person scolding him for unprofessionalism.)
She doesn’t show up due to detention (for accidentally throwing her chopsticks towards Nocchi and A-chan).

The third time she did it, she was caught.

“Hi, I’m Tegoshi Yuya!” he smiles at her, teeth and all. She finds it kind of blinding.
“K-kashiyuka,” she’s red as a tomato, choking out her own name.
“Waaah, cute name~” he gushes and she turns redder.
He asks her why she didn’t show up.
She says she kind of tried to hit her friends with her chopsticks.
He laughs and she thought it’s the best laugh she’s ever heard.

He asks her out properly the week after and A-chan is still gushing (and starts making up couple names and baby names).

Kashi and Yuya found out Nocchi is dating his friend a few days later.
(“Good job, Shige!” Yuya pats him on the back.)
A-chan coos and sighs at the new couple.
Yuya and Kashiyuka keep poking them about it.
Nocchi and Shige are both silent and red (and planning revenge over the smiley couple).
