It’s after a particularly wild evening in, with mountains of takeaway and maybe a little too much to drink while watching movies that it happens. Junno wakes up tangled in his sheets and under Koki. This isn’t unusual, except for the fact that he seems to be cosplaying a cat boy because last night he most definitely did not have cat ears. He didn’t have a tail, either.
Junno can’t help it when he tugs at it. It doesn’t budge, and has the startling effect of waking Koki, who lets out a blood curdling screech as he flails awake. His fingernails catch the side of Junno’s neck, and they really hurt. He screams too, because damn, he wasn’t expecting all of the yelling and thrashing quite so early in the morning.
Finally, Koki calms down. Junno’s eyes follow the way his tail flicks back and forth, and holy shit, how is it so realistic?
“What the fuck was that? That shit hurt,” Koki says, voice nearly a growl.
“What do you mean ‘what the fuck was that’? You have a tail!” Junno cries.
Koki only seems to notice it then. It stops its sinuous motion, and slowly, he reaches behind himself. His hands rest at the small of his back, and he gasps a little when his fingers brush against the base of his tail. Junno knows he’s mirroring Koki’s shocked expression when he flicks his tail to his front.
“Holy shit,” Koki murmurs. He looks at Junno, mouth slack. “I don’t have… ears, too, do I?”
Junno can only nod. Koki brings both hands to his head, wheezing quietly when he feels his new ears peeking from the tangles of his bed hair.
“At least you still have your normal ears, too?” Junno offers, wincing before Koki has the chance to hit him.
“Still! We have practice, and I’m pretty sure somebody will notice.” Koki huffs as he flops back down.
“Just keep it in your pants? Wear a hat?” Junno is pretty sure these are the logical solutions, even if they won’t really solve anything. Koki rolls over and buries his face in one of the pillows, muffling a scream of what Junno assumes is annoyance, if the way Koki’s tail thrashes is a clue.
Somehow, they make it through the day. Even mostly unscathed, save for the several scratches Junno had sustained when he’d first discovered Koki’s tail. No one had even seemed to give them any thought. Junno counts it as a success, at least until Koki tries to slink away to the bedroom straight from a long, smelly dance practice.
“No! Koki!” Junno dashes down the hall after Koki, frankly surprised that he even has the energy to move so quickly. “You are not sleeping in my bed without bathing!”
Junno catches up to him before he can get any of his stink on the sheets. Koki’s tail practically whips him, but Junno grabs him around the middle and hangs on tightly, bodily dragging him into the bathroom. The entire way Koki is wriggling in his hold, practically yowling the second Junno turns the shower on.
As much as it pains him to, Junno pushes Koki under the spray, clothes and all, following him. It literally pains him when Koki actually scratches him while he’s trying to yank his clothes off, but Junno grits his teeth and ignores it.
He can’t help but wince at every wet thud of their clothes hitting the tiled floor; once he’s through Junno starts the very necessary task of keeping a hold on Koki and reaching for the soap. He hopes he doesn’t drop it, because Koki is still fighting and his tail hurts plenty dry and he doesn’t fancy getting thwacked with it sopping wet. Thankfully, Junno keeps a firm grip on the bar and wastes no time in lathering Koki with it. He seems resigned to his fate by the time Junno reaches his belly and snatches the soap away to finish the job himself.
Junno counts it as a minor victory, and eases a hand toward the shampoo. May as well, since they’re here, and he’s able to let go of Koki long enough to squeeze a blob of it into his hands without any escape attempts.
It’s completely unexpected when Koki gasps at the first tentative touch against his scalp; it emboldens Junno and he speeds up. When he gets to the base of Koki’s new ears, Junno scratches gently, pleased when Koki’s shoulders lose some of their tension. He’s careful as he rinses the suds away, and Koki seems slightly less upset to be stuck under the spray. Junno cleans off quickly while he lets the conditioner do its work, though he does make sure to block as much of the way out of the shower as he possibly can.
Once he’s clean enough, and Koki is too, Junno shuts the water off and steps out, grabbing a towel before Koki can even attempt to make another break for the bed. He still seems a little sulky, but he accepts Junno’s efforts to dry him off; he giggles a bit, and looks mortified, when Junno carefully towels his tail dry. Junno doesn’t say anything though he desperately wants to, and finishes drying himself.
They're quiet as they go to Junno's room. Koki promptly crawls under the covers, and Junno follows, careful not to pull his tail. At first, Koki stays far away from Junno, nearly off the edge of the bed. He must still be a little upset about his new additions; Junno gives him his space and contemplates the ceiling.
He's nearly asleep when the covers rustle. Junno keeps his eyes shut and waits to see what Koki will do. Slowly, carefully, almost as if he's creeping up on an unsuspecting target, Koki cuddles up to Junno. He tucks his head under Junno's chin, and after a few silent minutes, he rests an arm across his chest.
Junno waits until he’s certain that Koki’s asleep, warm breaths snuffling against his neck, and slowly raises his free hand. He really can’t help it when he strokes one finger along the edge of one of Koki’s fluffy ears. Luckily it doesn’t wake the other; instead, Koki wiggles closer. He dozes off to the quiet rhythm of Koki’s breathing.
In the morning, they wake, tangled together in the sheets. Koki grumbles and shoves out of Junno’s arms. He sits up on the side of the bed, stealing the sheets from Junno. That’s when he realizes something is different.
Junno drags a finger down the center of Koki’s back, delighting in the way he shivers. He lingers at the small of his back; Koki squirms and laughs, a little unwillingly.
“Stop that, it tickles,” Koki murmurs, voice still rough from sleep.
“But Koki,” he says, quiet as he keeps stroking that spot. “It’s gone.”
Koki gasps, sitting up ramrod-straight, and brings both hands to his head. The black ears are gone too, and Koki whips around to try and find his tail. He looks like he’s torn between relief and disappointment. Junno is a little disappointed, too, but he chooses to look on the bright side.
“Maybe it will happen again next month.”
It’s worth it when Koki practically hisses as he grabs a pillow and thrashes him with it.
