Title: proving my love
Author: Annie
Pairing: Juri x Taiga
Genre: Fluff, Romance
Rating: PG
Summary: When so much happens in one day, Taiga can only guess what Juri will do next. Somewhat along the lines of 5 times Juri made Taiga’s heart go dokidoki, but also 4 different ways to tell your crush to shut up before you finally manage to kiss.
A/N: It doesn't feel like it's been two months since I've posted... but time flies when you're under stress, I suppose.. xD Well, now that my exams are over (not really sure how well they went....) and summer break is here for me, I will start writing again! YAY :D I'm not really sure how many Taiga/Juri pairing fans there are out there, but I am definitely one of them ^_^ Watching Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou was definitely my biggest break during studying, and it was an amazing drama for the high-rising juniors to start off on. I really hope Bakaleya6 will debut together in the future! (but maybe much later in the future.... xD)
Part Five: キミ+ボク=? (You + Me =?)
“Ne, Juri,” Taiga murmured as they walked up the final steps back to Taiga’s front door, for the last time that night. “I feel like you’ve been acting strangely today,” he paused, looking to his friend for any sign of denial.
Juri merely looked away.
Taiga had no choice but to continue. “Is there… something wrong? Is there something going on that I should know about?” Taiga asked softly, the worry unable to escape his voice.
Juri bit his lip, still refusing to meet his gaze. “It’s nothing. I told you before… I just wanted to see you.”
Taiga frowned slightly. “But you can always see me tomorrow, or the next day, or even the day after that. Why do you want to see me so badly… today?”
Juri didn’t answer once more.
Taiga was left with nothing. Closing his eyes, he did the only thing he could think of to try to convince Juri to tell him the truth. He enveloped his friend in a warm hug.
“Please, Juri. Tell me what’s happening. Why do I almost feel like you’re about to… leave… me…?”
Juri closed his eyes as well, but his arms hung limply at his sides, too weak to return the hug. “To be honest, I…” Juri stopped himself. He wasn’t ready to go on.
Taiga pulled Juri even closer. He had never felt his friend speak so softly before.
“Taiga… I am leaving you.”
Taiga’s arms fell as he drew back in shock. “W-What?” his eyes widened, his vision blurring with the beginnings of tears. “Wait! J-Juri, no! Y-You can’t. You can’t leave.” Taiga pulled desperately at Juri’s sleeves, his friend’s eyes downcast and void of emotion. “What do you mean by that? You can’t do this to me… just when I thought… I thought you-”
“I have to,” Juri finally spoke, his voice darkened with fear. “I can’t go on like this, I have to leave, Taiga.”
“But, why? Why, why?” Taiga staggered back, collapsing to his knees, as his legs gave way beneath him in a daze. His mind scarred with disbelief. Juri, you’re leaving me?
Don’t go… You can’t leave… he begged wordlessly.
“I can’t be your friend anymore, Taiga. Every day I am… it hurts,” Juri struggled to find the proper words.
It was now Taiga’s turn to be speechless. “W-What…? Why? Since when-?”
“I have to leave you, as a friend.”
“As a friend…?” Taiga muttered. “What do you mean? Are you even my friend, Juri?”
“I… I don’t want to be your friend.”
Taiga’s heart fell, his hopes crushed. Tears burned mercilessly down his cheeks.
But then.
A gentle touch, a soft, sad smile.
Brushing away his tears, Juri cupped his face in his hands. “Please, don’t cry, Taiga.” He touched their foreheads together, feeling their breaths collide as Taiga shuddered between tears. “When I say I don’t want to be friends, it’s because…” Juri sighed taking a deep breath. He had to say it now. He couldn’t wait any longer. Even if he wasn’t ready.
“I love you.”
Taiga froze; silence hung in the cold night air. He couldn’t believe his ears. Opening his eyes slowly, he pulled away from Juri to meet the boy’s unwavering gaze. He couldn’t speak; his heart fluttered.
Juri’s gaze seemed to see right through him.
“I love you, Taiga,” Juri found himself repeating once again. He needed Taiga to answer him, somehow acknowledge the fact that he had heard his confession. Why isn’t he saying anything? Anything at all…
Juri sighed, and his shoulders slumped as he gave up in defeat. “Being friends with you… It hurts me inside… knowing you only see me as a friend.” He surrendered to the uncontrollable truth, unable to help himself from letting the words tumble from his lips. “I don’t want us to be friends…
I want us to be more.”
Taiga was still at a loss for words. The more Juri spoke, the more Taiga felt overwhelmed by what he heard. But, even without any words, Taiga knew what he had to do. Just like he had always wanted to do.
Taiga kissed Juri.
And for once, he didn’t tell him to shut up.
