A/N: Picking up from a while ago... haha xD but I plan to finish this fic (hopefully before my summer vacation ends) and I am also working on a new JUMP fic!^^ Because the yamachii and yamajima fighting is beginning to scare me (o.o), I have decided to go with a Yutochii (LOL) fic that will have both yamajima and yamachii in it... xD
Chapter Three : Changing Faces
“Chii, I’m pretty sure that’s not supposed to happen…” Yuto raised an eyebrow skeptically. “People usually don’t just change personalities in the space of a day.”
“Yeah, I hate to say this, but Yuto’s right,” Keito grimaced. I did my best to suppress my smirk, seeing his comment causing Yuto to frown. “There’s got to be something wrong with him. I would be careful about what you say around someone who’s so emotionally unstable.”
Shaking my head, I sighed, tired of having to fight back. “But I… I want to believe that he really was just going through some troubles when we first met… can’t I believe that he might normally just be a nice guy?”
“Why do you think you can trust him so much?” Keito questioned warily.
Yuto nodded slowly. “You don’t really know him at all, Chii…”
But I wish I did…
Finally, after what seemed like the longest silence that had ever drawn out between the three of us, we turned down the hallway to where my next classroom was situated. But all of a sudden, I saw Daiki walking across from us, and without warning, I quickly gestured to Yuto and Keito that they could go on without me.
“H-Hi!” I waved openly, making sure to catch his attention.
Daiki blinked once or twice, turned around as if looking to see who I could be waving to, then realized I was staring right at him, and smiled widely. “Hi, Chinen!” he greeted back, walking over to me finally. “I’ve been seeing you a lot more recently, haven’t I?” He laughed, our steps falling in line as we walked together.
“Y-Yeah, funny coincidences, right?” I smile, perhaps a little too eagerly. But he doesn’t notice and merely nods as he looks on ahead.
“Oh, look! It’s Ryosuke,” he points behind me, waving at his friend. “Hey, Ryosuke!”
“Hey, Daiki!” Ryosuke smiled as he turned toward us. But upon meeting eyes with me, he stopped in his tracks. “Chinen?”
“Hi,” I wave feebly, still wary about whether he would be nice to me or not.
“I bumped into him just now, it seems like Chinen and I are fated to meet each other often these days,” Daiki laughed, almost as if explaining my presence. “Maybe you and I should switch partners for our biology project, Ryosuke,” he joked.
At that, Ryosuke shot me a deathly glare, causing me to jump back slightly in fear. Again, Daiki didn’t notice, and I began to wonder if he could be as naïve as Yuto.
“I don’t think Kei would appreciate that,” Ryosuke answered monotonously, his gaze at me unwavering.
I gulped.
“I wouldn’t appreciate what?” Kei Inoo smiled as he walked up to us from behind, his eyebrow raised as he questioned, “Are you guys talking about me behind my back or something?”
Daiki laughed. “Yes, Kei, we were just complaining about how you seem to eat as messily as a four-year-old!”
“Hey, no need for any bashing in front of your new friend,” Kei jabbed Daiki in the arm and I smiled sheepishly, forcing myself to laugh at their intimacy when instead I felt like I had been jabbed myself. In the heart, that is.
“I’m assuming you are all friends, then?” Kei grinned. “Nice to meet you, I’m Kei Inoo.” He extended his hand, giving me no choice but to shake it politely, in front of Daiki. “And you are?”
“Chinen, Chinen Yuri,” I answer back with a forced smiled. Behind Kei, I saw Ryosuke’s lips curl into a smirk, as if laughing at my name again. I made a mental note that Ryosuke definitely could not be trusted.
Once again, I had the strong urge to kick him.
Ryosuke was lucky Daiki was standing right beside him.
~~
When Biology class finally came around later that day, I sighed loudly as soon as Ryosuke put his books down on the table beside me. He looked at me, rolled his eyes in response, then proceeded to sit down without saying a word.
Pretending to be the bigger person of something?
I sighed in discontent.
If he wants to battle, it’s on! I refuse to let him win.
“I’m hoping you all are moving along smoothly with your projects,” Mr. Inohara stated bluntly.
We haven’t even started yet… I grimaced.
“You should be about done with the research on your topics by now, and be ready to move on to putting together your actual visual presentation.”
We’re so behind…
“As I mentioned before, you will be putting your projects together on a single sheet of poster board paper, and your projects will be hung up to display along the walls at the science fair next week, so please make sure you put effort into this project, since all of the students, teachers, and even parents that go to the science fair will be seeing your final product.”
Great…
“Now moving on to today’s lesson…”
I frowned.
What am I going to do about him…?
Unfortunately, it seemed as if Ryosuke could read my thoughts, as he immediately kicked me under the desk.
“WHAT THE HELL-” I stop myself, mid-yell.
Everyone stared at me, shocked by my outburst.
“S-Sorry,” I bowed apologetically. I guess we have mutual desires to kick one another…
Mr. Inohara merely looked at me disappointedly. “Chinen, if you wish to disrupt my lesson, I will be forced to ask you to leave, even if you have the highest grades in the whole class.”
I bowed again before shrinking back into my seat, feeling the glares of all my classmates boring holes into my skin.
Ryosuke Yamada cannot be trusted.
When I finally looked back over at him, once the shameful red flush had faded from my cheeks, Ryosuke merely stared back at me, expressionlessly. I sucked in a breath of nervous air into my lungs before turning back to pay attention to the lesson. A few pages of copious note-taking later, a folded slip of paper landed on my desk.
I glanced over at the direction from which it was thrown, but only saw Ryosuke smiling softly back at me. The image, however surprising, unwillingly made my heart clench. What is going on…?
Cautiously, I unfolded the note without attracting Mr. Inohara’s attention and read the scrawled message hidden within.
Chinen-
Sorry about that, I was just trying to get your attention. How about we meet to work on the project today? We can go to my house if you don’t mind, since I have some poster board at home. I’ll talk to you after class to confirm.
-Ryosuke
I blinked.
He was being… nice… again? I stole another glance in his direction, but this time he was too busy concentrating on the lesson. I bit my lip… I can’t trust him enough to go to his house, can I?
I racked my brain for an answer, but all I could think of was NO! Definitely not! But for some reason, deep down, I really wanted to say Yes.
