Summary: Juri and Taiga have been assigned to act out an "embarrassing" skit for the school festival at Horikoshi, but when Juri suddenly starts to diverge from the script, Taiga starts to panic. Uncontrollably, Taiga finds himself falling for his friend, and he can't help but give in to Juri's will. But what is Juri really thinking? Is it all just an act...?
A/N: I just realized I haven't written a oneshot in a while... xD But anyway, I am thinking of writing a sequel to "keeping secrets", thanks to dreamingofbliss^_^ but I'll have to plan it out first and see if I have enough story ideas to write..... ^^;; Meanwhile, I am hoping to write my first fumaken (Kento Nakajima & Fuma Kikuchi of Sexy Zone) fic! ^_^ Hopefully I can write it up soon, but it's going to be a little darker than my usual writing style... because of the meaning behind  "rouge" and "Teleportation"... so I don't even know if it'll turn out good enough for me to actually post... =___= but i'll see what happens... lol! xD

With an exasperated sigh, Juri collapsed on the bed in Taiga’s room, throwing his arms over his head in defeat, as Taiga’s squishy mattress cushioned his fall. Staring at him with a look of amused disapproval, Taiga stifled his giggle as he sat down on the bed beside Juri’s outstretched legs.

“Is it really that bad, acting with me?” he smiled, poking Juri’s knees teasingly.

Juri only groaned, stuffing his face into Taiga’s pillow.

“Pretty bad, I guess,” Taiga laughed, answering his own question. With a gentle tug, he reached over and pulled the pillow away from Juri’s grasp. “Come on, we have to practice; we have to perform at the school festival tomorrow, remember?”

Juri heaved another melodramatic sigh. “I still can’t believe the teacher just signed us up for this without even asking us first.”

Taiga shrugged, the tiniest hint of sympathy reflected in his eyes. “To be honest, it makes sense, though. Just think about it, Juri. The two of us have just been in a drama and a movie for Bakaleya, and you were even in Sprout, too,” Taiga reasoned. “It’s not surprising that the teacher thinks we’re suited for acting.”

Juri only sighed again, unable to think of any protest. “It’s still unfair… this script isn’t even written for two guys to act out.” He rolled his eyes, sitting up beside Taiga along the edge of the bed.

Taiga merely shrugged once more, flipping the script book over in his hands. “At least… you don’t have to play the girl…” he pouted.

At this, Juri threw his head back and laughed, putting his arm around Taiga’s shoulders.

The older boy smiled softly.

“I’m sorry, Taiga, but it’s just hilarious that he chose you over all the actual girls in our class to be the girl for this skit,” Juri grinned, receiving an angry poke in the cheek from his friend.

“Well… even though I’m being forced to act as a girl… at least, I’m glad I get to do this with you… rather than anyone else,” Taiga murmured, lowering his eyes. But Juri didn’t seem to notice the softness hidden in his words.

Juri merely nodded in agreement, yawning as he stretched his arms out in contentment. “I’m glad it’s you, too,” he admitted with a smile. “Otherwise, this would just be too embarrassing!”

Taiga smiled back weakly, concealing the uncontrollable flutter of his heart. To him, it felt as if acting alongside Juri only made the script all the more embarrassing, but he still was glad Juri was his partner. It gave him an excuse to simply spend more time together with his friend. The script itself was merely an added benefit. Taiga could only hope his heart could survive it.

“So… are you ready to try this?” Juri asked, pulling himself to his feet. He reached out his hand, offering it to help Taiga get up as well.

With a slight nod, Taiga slipped his fingers into Juri’s palm, the warmth of his friend’s grasp transferring to warmth in his cheeks. With one last intake of breath, Taiga scanned the script once more.

The storyline seemed simple, Juri and Taiga were a boy and a girl, out on a date, during which Taiga was to get mad at Juri for talking to another girl, and then consequently start to ignore Juri.

Simple.

At least, Taiga had thought this would be simple enough.

As they began moving through the script, Taiga gradually felt himself falling into his role, falling into the story, falling for Juri. The jealousy burned in his glare as he muttered bitterly, “You look like you’re having so much fun… talking to her.”

As dictated in the script, Juri merely laughed at this statement. But Taiga couldn’t help but feel the anger piercing into his heart.

“You’re jealous,” Juri smiled. Amusement shined in his moon-shaped eyes.

Taiga’s lips were about to form some sort of protest, when unexpectedly, with a gentle thud, Taiga felt his back make contact with his bedroom door.

Was Juri improvising?

Juri’s arms trapped Taiga against the wall; his dark brown eyes gazed deeply into Taiga’s. No words escaped his lips.

For a second, Taiga couldn’t breathe. What was going on? How had they suddenly gotten so… close?

Barely allowing his ragged breath to escape from his pale lips, Taiga’s heart skipped a beat, wondering if Juri had forgotten his next line. Was Taiga supposed to keep going along with the script regardless?

But somehow, Juri’s gaze was too deep, too tender, for Taiga to possibly believe Juri was only acting. It had to be real… This wasn’t in the script.

The breath stifled in Taiga’s lungs hindered him from speaking; he had no means to protest.

So close… They were so close.

Taiga jerked his eyes away. He couldn’t take it. Juri’s gaze, as if reading his mind. Only after he had averted his eyes did Taiga realize he, too, had defied the script. By refusing to look back at Juri, by turning his face away. There was no turning back.

Taiga felt his body paralyzed; he didn’t know what to do. How would Juri react?

His answer came in the form of Juri’s fingers grazing his chin, forcing Taiga to lift his gaze and look back, straight into his eyes.

“What’s wrong with you?” Juri asked in a low voice.

The older boy shivered slightly, his heart pounding in his ears, echoing with Juri’s words. What was going on? Was Juri still acting?

Taiga bit his lip and attempted to turn his gaze elsewhere, anywhere but at Juri.

But then, Juri leaned in closer, and he touched his forehead to Taiga’s. The warmth of his breath reddening Taiga’s cheeks, the tips of his bangs tickling Taiga’s nose.

“I-I…” Taiga tried to force the words out, but his mind refused to let them come. “J-Juri-”

Taiga was cut off by Juri’s lips pressing against his. His eyes widened at the sudden softness, before slowly drifting closed, as Taiga began to melt into the kiss. It felt as if Juri knew exactly how to make his heart flutter. He knew Taiga well, almost too well.

“Don’t,” Juri mumbled on his lips. “Don’t tell me to stop…”

“But Juri, I-” Taiga tried to protest, but Juri’s lips only pressed harder. He tried to tell himself that this was wrong, that he didn’t like Juri, that he didn’t love Juri.

But it was no use.

Breaking the kiss, Juri met Taiga’s gaze once more, before reaching behind him, and locking the door.

Taiga’s body tensed, his chest tightening with the pounding of his heart. This couldn’t really be happening. Taiga felt the fear clasping in his mind. But he wasn’t scared of Juri; he was scared of what would happen if Juri stopped now.

But Juri’s eyes, staring back into his, reassured him. This had to be real.

Barely noticing the gentle tug on his arm, Taiga, captivated by the darkness in Juri’s gaze, regained consciousness just as Juri pushed him down to his bed. Everything was happening so fast, Taiga didn’t even fight back when Juri lay down beside him.

Juri’s lips so close, Taiga could practically imagine their softness, the softness that he had just felt mere moments before. But Taiga tore his gaze away; he couldn’t bear to look back at Juri any longer. In the stillness, the sound of their heartbeats and their breaths echoed, almost like a whisper.

Taiga could hear his heart beat faster as time seemed to slow. He peeked a glance at Juri, only to be met by Juri’s unwavering eyes. Taiga instinctively covered his face with his hands in an attempt to hide the flush that had crept to his cheeks.

One more deep breath.

Two.

Juri placed his hands over Taiga’s, pulling them down, away from Taiga’s shining eyes.

Taiga didn’t want to let go, but…

For one last fleeting moment, Taiga cherished the warmth of Juri’s hands in his grasp before they suddenly slipped away. Immediately, Taiga’s gaze shifted downward, wondering what was wrong, but before he had a chance to even realize it, Juri’s hands had found their way to Taiga’s shirt. He could only watch as his friend’s slender fingers slowly began to undo the buttons.

As Juri’s hands traveling farther and farther down his chest, Taiga felt his heart racing faster and faster.

What was Juri going to do?

Taiga shivered at Juri’s touch, the younger boy’s fingers tracing whispered lines across his now bare chest.

“We can stop,” Juri murmured, placing his hands gently on Taiga’s waist. He lifted his gaze to look directly into Taiga’s eyes.

Taiga bit his lip, his cheeks burning, his heart pounding. No. He didn’t want to stop. Not now. Not anymore. Not when they were already… so close.

“Do we… have to?” he asked softly; his breath caught in his throat. He couldn’t believe his own words.

But Juri merely smiled, pulling the bed covers up over both of them. The softness, the warmth; Taiga’s heart skipped a beat when he felt Juri’s arm wrapping around him. Taiga quickly lowered his gaze, his eyes flickering from left to right, his breath becoming more and more shallow and ragged with every flutter of his heart.

He couldn’t take it anymore, so much nervousness, yet excitement. He forced himself to believe, this just had to be an act. Juri was just playing around with him, and later he was going to tease Taiga for falling for his tricks.

Not knowing where to look to avoid meeting Juri’s gaze, Taiga closed his eyes, trying to shut out the image of Juri’s lips. The lips he had already kissed.

But the sudden sensation of those very lips trailing kisses down his cheek, Juri’s warmth enveloped around his body, made Taiga’s eyes blink open almost instantly. It wasn’t just his imagination this time.

So close, they were so close, Taiga could barely breathe.

Hastily, Taiga buried his face into the covers, suppressing his smile in embarrassment.

Juri’s hands began to rub soft circles in his back.

“You shouldn’t keep trying to cover up your pretty face,” Juri’s voice whispered. “I promise… I’ll be gentle… You can trust me.”

Taiga’s heart clenched, his cheeks flooding red. But three words gnawed at the back of his head.

Is this real?

Taking one last deep breath, Taiga gave in to his desires, and lifted his face, his eyes almost immediately drawn to Juri’s once more.

Without another word, Juri tilted his head slightly as he leaned in, and brushed his lips against Taiga’s. As much as Taiga loved the sweetness of his kiss, he forced himself to pull away and ask, “Is this… still part of your acting?”

Juri merely smiled softly. “Only if you want it to be.”

Shyly, Taiga murmured, “What would happen if I said I wanted it to be real?”

Juri reached up and placed his hand gently on Taiga’s cheek. “It would be real,” he answered simply.

A flutter of hidden happiness.

“What if I said I didn’t?”

Juri leaned forward, touching his lips to Taiga’s forehead. “It would still be real.”

He pulled Taiga in closer by the waist, allowing the older boy to rest his head on his chest. Taiga could hear Juri’s heart beating rampantly.

“Juri…”

Gazing downward at the Taiga in his arms, Juri tucked a strand of Taiga’s hair behind his ear. No words were spoken. Only peaceful stillness. Taiga slowly wrapped his arms around Juri, returning his friend’s embrace.

“What would happen if… if I told you I love you?” Taiga murmured, his question tumbling from his lips unexpectedly.

To his great surprise, Juri merely replied, “I would tell you I love you back.”

Taiga’s cheeks glowed a soft pink, his heart thundering in his ears, almost perfectly aligned with Juri’s beating chest.

Was this really happening?

“What if I were lying?” Taiga breathed, wishing desperately Juri wasn’t only acting.

“I would still love you,” Juri answered, his voice low and gentle.

Taiga couldn’t help but feel a shy smile tugging at his lips. It was too good to be true. “A-Are you still acting when you say that?” He finally asked. He just had to know.

His only answer came in the form of his head rocking along with the rhythm of Juri’s laughter.

“Taiga… you don’t understand…”

Taiga slowly lifted his gaze, drawn by the sudden tenderness in Juri’s words.

“I love you.”

The three words echoed in Taiga’s mind, his lips curving into a smile as his eyes witnessed the sincerity reflected in Juri’s gaze. Without warning, Taiga hugged Juri even tighter, burying himself in the softness of his friend’s warmth.

Beside his bed, the abandoned script book lay unopened and ignored. They still had yet to finish rehearsing for their performance tomorrow, but Taiga no longer cared. He no longer needed to follow a script. All he needed was Juri’s love.
