I read this article yesterday during a bout of self-loathing. I ran across it when I google'd "self loathing anger" and this came up. If you want to take the time, it would be interesting for you guys to read the article and leave some comments about what you think of it. Why? After open-mindedly reading this several times I state that this is complete bullshit. For example, she says that piercings indicate that we think we "aren't good enough as is." What about make-up, which is worn by every age group? What about senior citizens both male and female who dye their hair? What about face-lifts and tummy tucks, which are most popular among the middle aged? The only reason that there is a higher percentage of young people with piercings/tattoos than the percentage of older women who have face lifts is because piercings are cheaper, less painful, less risky and less permanent. She says that various sub-cultures such as goths, punks, gangstas, etc are following are only trying to be accepted by a group and are therefore using a collectivist mentality. Does that mean that every girl with perfectly manicured nails, acceptable blonde-highlighted and flat-ironed hair, who wears a nice button-down shirt and jeans or khaki pants are not trying to fit into a group? Yeah fucking right. They are trying to be respected by ( ... )

i generally don't mind lewrockwell.com but this article is pretty ridiculous. just because i'm 22, i look up to dennis rodman and marylin manson? and when's the last time you saw someone with a dog collar and leash and a bunch of leather on at Theio's?

and for the record, Beethoven was super pissed all the time.
