Penitence (For dirtyenough4u and loveshisbow)

Bucky would be lying if he said he was completely over his guilt. The reason he’d offered to make dinner, after all, was for penitence, and even if the others hadn’t said anything, he suspected they knew. He was grateful for this, and grateful to them for not saying anything. This would be that final necessary push, the last thing needed to push ( Read more... )

Her heels clicked as she moved around the table, her black dress accentuating her curves and drawing attention to the strip of pale skin shown off by the deep cut down the front.

Natasha smiled back at James, and gave a nod before she went back to humming along to the music and straightened the cutlery quickly. "All done, sweetheart."

"I have the wine," Clint called from the kitchen as he carried the chilled bottle and three wine glasses carefully by the stems into the dining area. Clueless though he might be most of the time, even he knew this impromptu dinner was something more than just a dinner between friends and had tried to class up his act a little with some nicer clothes and had brought along a very nice bottle of Bordeaux.

Bucky himself was clad in black slacks and a blue shirt with the first button undone and the sleeves rolled up to the elbow. It wasn't anything fancy, but a little nicer than what he might normally wear.

"You can put it on the table," he called before heading to the table himself with the bowl of pasta and plate of steak.

Natasha paused for a moment to admire her two boys. She always did like it when they wore those tailored shirts. The blue always brought out James' eyes and when Clint when dressy it always showed off his physique. Not that either of them were slouches, her boyfriend especially.

She grinned as she came up behind Clint, wrapping her arms around him as she kissed his cheek before pulling away to give James' ass an appreciative squeeze. "Smells amazing, darling. I love that I have a man who cooks."

Natasha shifted in her chair as she listened to Bucky and reached over for his hand as she gave it a gentle squeeze. She hated to see him being eaten up with guilt whether it was related to her, or Clint. She gave a nod of agreement. "Exactly. We know our boundaries, and while I've had boundaries with Clint they might not be a the same. They aren't the same given my relationship with James." Her gaze flicked back to her boyfriend and she frowned slightly. "Is there anything you don't want me doing with Clint?"

The archer nodded as well and slanted a faint smile in Bucky's direction at that apology. "No, I think you're right and as I've said to Natasha, communication is key for something like this. If one of us starts to feel uncomfortable and we're not comfortable communicating that to the others then it's just going to cascade out of control from there."

Clint's mouth curled upwards just a little ironically as he took another bit of his pasta. Playfully, the blond man shot Natasha a mischievous look. "Or anything you don't want me doing with Bucky?" It was second nature to call the man that instead of James. His given name had a strange intimacy he'd always associated with Tasha and Bucky.

Bucky sighed again. They were getting nowhere. "It seems like we're all kinda reluctant to state our wants, which is understandable. But somebody's gotta be the first to go, and that somebody may as well be me, so...here goes. I...don't want you two going any further than kissing or cuddling if I'm not there." He turned to Natasha. "And I assume you have a simillar rule for me and Clint."

Natasha pushed out a breath as she took a sip of wine. Bucky was right of course. They were dancing around the topic while pretending to talk about it. She gave a nod as he asked her the question. "Yes, I do. And I have no problem with sticking to kissing and cuddling if you're not there." Even if it had been a battle once, but this was the danger in wanting to bring an ex into your relationship. There would always be old feelings.

She pulled her mouth to the side briefly before looking at Clint. "Would you want the same for me and James? I know that we're the ones in a relationship, but this is about to shift and grow if it even works. I think we all know chemistry isn't a problem. It's how we even kick this off."
