Kyuhyun’s POV
I was one of those popular kids in school… particularly in my year level. Since I’m just a high school freshman, only the first years know me… I guess. Well, yeah, I was the top of all the students who qualified for the entrance exam. Therefore, I gave a speech to everyone.
I’m used to it… being the most popular guy in school. However, transferring to another home and school made me nervous. Different people, sceneries, neighborhood and ways of living. City life is hard. I don’t know if I’ll survive this.
Nonetheless, I did survive after all. I got many friends and fans… but the only thing that I didn’t have was a lover. Sure, a lot wants to be my lover and most of them were really beautiful girls with those nice, long legs… but no matter how hard I try, my heart just can’t beat like crazy for someone… I’ve never even been kissed! Maybe flirting and flings aren’t the solution.
I never fell in love before…
Until I met him…
The guy who changed my views in life…
I was eating at the cafeteria with my friends when a small, spectacled boy about my age went near me, shaking. He was kinda funny… and weird. He softly cleared his throat and bowed at me… wow, a well-mannered boy. “Uh, Kyuhyun-sshi, Ms. Kim is looking for you at the music room...” Music room? Will she make me sing again?! Ever since the day she heard me playfully singing with my friends at the classroom, she never stopped bothering me! What does she need right now?
Changmin, one of my friends, snickered at me, “Hey Kyuhyunnie, maybe Ms. Kim is finding hard to fall asleep that’s why she needs you to sing a lullaby for her.” I glared at him, “Funny, Changmin, very funny.”
I’m not the type to go to wherever place I was told to go to… but I felt that something good will happen… Maybe she will give me a hundred percent grade? I never thought being handsome would bring me this luck! That’s why I followed the small weirdo.
When we entered the music room, I heard a sweet melody being played. I don’t know what song was that but it was so beautiful… It is so relaxing and soothing… Makes me feel that it would serve as an escape to whatever problem I might encounter in the future…
I looked for the source of that melody and found a very beautiful guy sitting on a wooden chair, plucking the strings of his pink guitar where the amazing music came from. I was staring at his side profile which looked so perfect in every detail, at the same time, listening to his music. The way he plays the guitar, the way he shows his emotions through it, the way he closes his eyes to feel the message and the way he parts his lips a bit, made me feel like my heart is gonna jump any second now.
End of POV
He was into the sound that he didn’t even notice that Ms. Kim was already beside him and jumped when he felt the teacher’s presence. “I didn’t expect that you will be here, Mr. Cho.” Every one inside the room stopped what they were doing when the teacher spoke to the freshman, including the one who plays the guitar.
Kyuhyun gulped; trying to form the right words in his genius brain. Because I felt that I will finally find the love of my life. He would be recorded as the World’s Idiotic, Corny Lovesick if he said that! He smiled sheepishly at the grinning teacher, looking only at the middle-aged woman, “Uh, well, that…” He cleared his throat, regaining his composure, “I was bored and I’ve got nothing to do. So, why did you call me here?”
Ms. Kim’s face brightened and clasped her hands under her chin, “Mr. Cho, will you perform on the school’s winter festival program?”
If there is one thing that he won’t do, it is to perform live on stage, even though he knows that he can sing... He just doesn’t want to. He raised an eyebrow, trying not to raise his voice, “What?”
Then, Ms. Kim waved her hand towards someone. When Kyuhyun followed her gaze, he froze.
The pretty guitarist boy walked and smiled brightly at him. The guy’s smile was now his favorite thing in the world… after Starcraft, of course.
When the guy was now in front of him, Ms. Kim placed her hand on the guy’s broad shoulder, “Mr. Cho, this is Lee Sungmin, third year. The two of you will sing a duet on the festival.”
When he heard the word ‘sing’, he snapped his head back to his music teacher, “What? I haven’t even agreed!!!” Ms. Kim pouted and did puppy eyes, to everyone’s disgust, “Please, Kyuhyun-ah… Yours and Sungmin’s voice blend perfectly with each other! Your performance will surely be a blast!”
Then a tall, black-haired guy with a slender body stood beside Ms. Kim, smiling like there’s no tomorrow - which is evident on his now almost closed eyes, “Yeah. Besides, the idea that two of the most popular kids singing a duet will surely attract a lot of students, even from the other schools.” Kyuhyun scrunched his forehead, still confused, “Uhh… There are a lot of popular kids here… I’m just a freshman.”
The small-eyed guy chuckled, “Yeah, but the number of freshmen now dominates the school. You are the most famous freshman here and all students here know you… who wouldn’t want to miss that one in a million chance of seeing their bias sing? While Sungmin here is famous all over the place, even on other schools.”
He wasn’t surprised at the popularity of Sungmin - how he loved that name - seeing how cute and good-looking this guy is, a lot of girls would want to have him. And with that amazing talent, everyone would bow at him! But why didn’t he know that a gorgeous guy like him is studying at his school! How come he hasn’t seen him before?
But the thought that he would sing with his crush is just way too amazing. Maybe he would just stare at his beautiful face the whole song and wouldn’t be able to sing properly! He sang once… on a contest… he won… but his father scolded him. His father wanted him to inherit their company and being a singer won’t help him to become one. He really wants to sing, but he is afraid that his father will beat him up… or worse, send him to another country. Not now that he found his love!
“But, I haven’t sung in front of other people…”
Then, a hand was placed on his shoulder. It was Sungmin, smiling sweetly at him. He thought that his smile would make the sweetest chocolate in the world that they would even beat Willy Wonka’s chocolates. “It’s alright, my hoobae, I’ll help you. That’s why I’m here.”
Kyuhyun knows that he blushed and he can’t hide it. He just decided to look innocent so that they would just think that he was just shocked and nervous, not because of Sungmin’s touch and inspiring words. “Uh, thanks, sunbae.”
The guy beside Ms. Kim said, “So, are you in?” Kyuhyun sighed. Well, once won’t hurt, right? After all, his Sungmin will be by his side to help him! “Okay.” Ms. Kim clapped her hands, happiness evident on her face, “That’s great! By the way Kyuhyun, this is Yesung, but his real name is Jongwoon. He is the one in charge on the program so feel free to ask him questions. He isn’t studying here anymore because he just graduated last year and now in college but I’m really glad that he agreed on directing this one again!”
Yesung chuckled, “This is what I love, Ms. Kim. I’ve been doing this for the past two years and I don’t think I’ll be able to let go of this. Also, I’ll be needing these experiences for my field. I’m also glad that you found another talent.”
The teacher smiled, “Yeah. Oh, I have to go somewhere! So, Yesung, take care of the kids here, okay? You can call Jungsu if you want to.” Yesung nodded.
Sensing Kyuhyun’s nervousness, Sungmin tapped the younger’s shoulder, making the latter look at him, “I heard from Ms. Kim that you have a wonderful voice… mind giving us a sample?” Kyuhyun’s eyes widened, “What?! I…” Sungmin giggled with the younger’s cuteness, “It’s alright. It’s just us.” Kyuhyun’s eyes roamed around the room, looking at the unfamiliar faces smiling at him.
Yesung interrupted, “I bet you don’t know these people since you’re the only first year here.” He pointed at the spectacled boy who was the one who called him at the cafeteria, “That’s Ryeowook, second year.” Then pointed next on the other people there, stating their names. Kyuhyun nodded, only memorizing Ryeowook’s name. He’s not good in names.
He heard Sungmin’s sweet voice again, “Now that you know them, you can now sing for us!” Kyuhyun unconsciously nodded after letting out a long sigh, making the cute guy clap his hands.
When everyone is settled on their seats, Kyuhyun stood in front, heart beating not because of the nervousness that he might mess up singing, but because Sungmin, his love, was watching him, expecting that he is good. Damn, he hadn’t sung for years!
He cleared his throat. Paused for a while and made sure that he won’t be looking at Sungmin. Just by looking at that face makes him nervous.
When Kyuhyun parted his mouth, Sungmin sat properly and thought that this boy is something… He doesn’t know why but he found Kyuhyun interesting.
His smile disappeared when the latter started singing… No, he is not disappointed. Instead, he was amazed by the smooth angelic voice of Kyuhyun. He was too focused on the song that he managed to have his mouth opened and eyes widened the whole song… full of admiration in his fox-like eyes.
When the song was about to end, a smile formed on Sungmin’s lips. His heart suddenly lightened… It was like his voice attracted all the negative things buried deep inside his heart right now… But then, he thought that Kyuhyun was looking at him while he was singing… a longing and loving look… He became scared. He doesn’t want it. This boy is too precious. He couldn’t take to waste a treasure like Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun blushed; Sungmin was watching him and adoration was evident on his eyes… He tried his best not to look at him but his eyes fell on their own at the sight of that goddess - he looks like a girl, actually. After he finished the song, all he could hear was the clapping of hands from his small audience. Maybe he did good - of course, he can’t hear himself sing, right? His voice was making an echo effect on his ears and he thought he sucked. But seeing the happy reaction on their faces, especially Sungmin’s, maybe his singing skill was still the same as before.
He shivered a bit when Sungmin tiptoed and wrapped his arm around Kyuhyun’s neck, “You’ve got a great voice, dongsaeng!!!” Kyuhyun smiled, “Uh, thanks…” The smaller man playfully slapped his dongsaeng’s arm, “Call me hyung!” The magnae lowered his voice, “Uh, Sungmin-hyung.” Sungmin giggled and pinched Kyuhyun’s cheek, “You’re so cute~!”
Yesung approached them next, “Kyuhyun-ah, I would be glad if you will join. That kind of talent shouldn’t be kept inside your vocal chords your whole life. You need to share it to everyone.” Yesung grinned, “And Sungmin would be glad to be your singing partner…” Kyuhyun knows that Yesung had already noticed his feelings for his singing partner, making him smirk at him, “Yeah, I’m in, Yesung-sshi.”
Sungmin looked at the two guys with confusion.
