I live in western N.C., well out of Frankenstorm's path, so while we're getting the fringes of the storm(s), nobody's worried about serious damage

LJ has eaten my reply to you three times, now, and I'm hoping you aren't getting all those emails and wondering what the heck is going on.
At any rate, yes, we're safe. The wind continues to howl, and we've had more branches down in the night, complete with accompanying thuds and crashes over our heads, but nothing like the one that sent me flying down the hall in a mad panic last night.
I hope that "zero casualties" is achievable.
I hope the same, but judging by the number of news reports about people defying evacuation orders, I'm not betting on it. I hate it when people do stupid things that put others at risk.
We are okay, yes. And I got a good look at the roof this morning. It appears to have survived intact. Thank heavens for that. We're due heavy snow and more wind overnight, though, so this mess isn't over yet. What about you folks? Are you getting any of this at all on your side of the mountains?
Nope! It's cold - it got down to 34 last night, but it's supposed to warm up to 58 today. And stay sunny all week. I have to say I'm glad to miss it, but sorry for everyone that's getting smacked with that mess.
I heard on the radio that you were getting up to 17 inches of snow! My gosh, that would shut us down for a week here-lol. Hope you're provisioned up and have heat!
17 must be the ridge-line forecast. We're only looking at something between 2&6 here in Asheville. So, not as bad as all that, but probably enough to close schools tomorrow. My only worry in that regard is the fact that it's likely to be a heavy snow, and I hate when the power goes out in cold weather. *shivers*
We are, thank you. Also? Your post last night had me rushing off to make sure I'd spelled batten properly. Once I saw that I had, I sighed in relief and then allowed myself a giggle at the idea of sailors buttoning down their hatches. Hee.
It was pretty darned scary, yes. I imagine it is windy there in the piedmont. I hope you've no dead or dying trees near your house. We're surrounded by woods, so I always get nervous when the wind kicks up.
On the bright side, you don't have to deal with snow, which we're bound for tonight and which is going to be that lovely, heavy, wet stuff that always takes down the power lines. *sigh*
