Fantasy versus reality

Occasional Superheroine has an interesting blog post on Photoshop reality.

So, if you ever looked at a magazine cover and thought, "Ew! Eat something already!" it may not necessarily be the actual body of said model or actress.

Wow. I had no idea they altered them quite to the extent of removing like a third of their bodyweight. Although every picture looked better in the 'before' phase, IMO, as they look... um... real.

Actually, this kind of thing is something that bothers me enormously. It's fantasy, obviously, but it's not sold that way. It's not so bad now I work with lots of slightly off-beat people, who don't give a fig for fashion or those kinds of magazine images , but when I worked in an office, I encountered a few people who really bought in to all that stuff.

Obviously, each to their own, but listening day after day to otherwise intelligent women (in this case. I'm sure there are men who probably do the same) telling each other incessantly quite how much they hated bits of themselves, and boasting about how many times they'd fainted while on a particular diet just filled me with despair.
They could've done so many other things, but seemed never to be happy with their looks - which were absolutely fine -(or the looks of others) & spent all ( ... )

Ugh, I can never see stuff like that without feeling angry and sad, at least a bit. I'll never get it. Like Fi said, it just can't be healthy (mentally or physically) for the people who buy in.
