Yeah, fifteen million diabetics have been ecstatic to hear about how we could just go get our own health insurance with 5 grand, I'm sure.

The issue about nationalizing health care isn't just about the cost, although that is a factor. So is the corruption of our entire healthcare system. But public opinion is awful. I know that a lot of people just think it's a horrible idea, for no good reason.

A co-worker of mine was talking about how awful it would be. "You would have to wait months for a surgery or to see a specialist! You wouldn't be able to pick your doctor!" I said, "Have you ever been under a crappy HMO plan? Because that's EXACTLY what it is like. You have a short list of doctors to choose from. It can be very hard to get in to see a specialist. Wouldn't you rather have that than no insurance at all?"

The main problem is the idiocy of the common American, who has never given a thought to who pays how much for his or her insurance. For people who don't have serious health conditions, I'm sure it barely registers on their radar.

...Or who just knows what s/he has seen in ads, but never thought to ask who made the ad and why.
