Independent Record Labels
Besides other indie bands, I was thinking about independent labels. Here are links to some of the "top" indies: Epitaph, Victory, Matador, Koch, Saddle Creek, Sub Pop, Rykodisc. Below the cut you'll find some well-known artists from each.
What am I asking from you though? Give me links or any info on your favorite indie labels (no matter how big/small!), along with some information about the band(s) associated with them. We all know indie labels that are passionate about good music and good musicians won't have soulless drivel tied to their name, so this may be another way for us to find out about new bands and such. I'm hoping anyway.. Anyway, onto the big indies and their bands...
Epitaph - Dropkick Murphys, The Distillers, Elliot Smith, HorrorPops, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, etc.
Victory - Straylight Run, Hawthorne Heights, etc.
Matador - Belle & Sebastian, Cat Power, Mogwai, The New Pornographers, Spoon, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Yo La Tengo, etc.
Koch - The Kinks, Opeth, Lamb, etc.
Saddle Creek - Azure Ray, Bright Eyes, Cursive, The Faint, Rilo Kiley, etc.
Sub Pop - The Album Leaf, The Helio Sequence, Hot Hot Heat, Iron & Wine, Mudhoney, The Postal Service, The Shins, Sleater-Kinney, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc.
Rykodisc - Agent Orange, Babes in Toyland, Cocteau Twins, Nick Drake, Fastball*, Dizzy Gillespie, Ladytron, Meat Puppets, Medeski Martin & Wood, The Misfits, Miss Kittin & The Hacker, etc.

As you can see, independent music is out there and it's obviously good! Now let's move from artists we know to artists we don't. Feel free to Google any of the above artists if you don't know them and check them out. But remember y'all - let's find out about the other labels & bands too!
