i would never say it's a good song, but i'm so obsessed w/ lovers and friends by lil jon (featuring ludacris and usher). and the lyrics are truly, truly AWFUL. there are others. let me think a moment and i will get back to you.
hmm. the first thing that came to mind for me was "ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" by spiritualized, just because the song is so pretty but the lyrics (whether intentionally or not, i don't know) have a combination of several of the most cliche love song lines ever.

Most works by Richard Marx and Heart, some by Pat Benatar (It's not a love song, I don't think, but "Hell is For Children" is GREAT for this type of category). "Lesbian Seagull" by Engelbert Humperdinck. Also, think "Extinct Boy Bands..." NKOTB will live on forever in their terribilitude. Foreigner - "I Want to Know What Love Is." And some songs, a la Michael Bolton - "Can I Touch You There," just SOUND like trouble.

um you rock. these are awesome suggestions, particularly foreigner and heart. if you think of more, do let me know. so far i'm focused also on radiohead, frou frou, and coldplay. hm.

Frou Frou rocks my socks. if you like them, you'll love Venus Hum (the synesthete's best friend), and possibly also The Postal Service. The lead singer for Postal Service is the same love-forlorn sweetheart who fronts Death Cab for Cutie (whose most recent album, Transatlanticism, makes me want to nutt).
Opening for Coldplay in many cities is a group called Rilo Kiley, which I also reccommend.
In the last few months, my musical sphere has big-bangged itself into a new universe of delights, so I could go on and on and on ad nauseam. It might be more convenient to re-email me your mailing address and receive a CD at some random time in the mail. I'm just sayin'.

AND, have you heard imogen heap's first album? i fell in love with her in high school and bought every copy i could for a dollar each at manifest and have been doling them out diligently to my friends since. i believe i just gave away my last extra copy. BUT. if you want, i can burn it for you.
so great, i'll email you my address and some day when you get a chance, you can send me things you love and then i'll love them, too.
