So we just started walking around and looking at all the little sh-hole hotels as it dawned on us that $30 was the best room you could get and it was one room with crappy beds, a single florescent light, and AC.

I assume you're headed to Tikal?

If you can, spend Easter, which I think is next week, in Antigua. They have an amazing parade with bands playing a dirge. It would be worth extending your trip to do it because it's one of those once in a lifetime events.

I was on my way back from Tikal. Just in Flores for a few hours. Long enough to eat a meal, have a wander, and down a try-to-sleep-on-the-bus beer.

I won't be able to spend Holy Week in Antigua (start my new job on Monday) but caught several processions, including a big Sunday one that packed Parque Central and featured an apocalyptic horseman that totally looked like Johnny The Homocidal Maniac. The best are the ones where little kids do the heavy lifting.

In San Pedro on Lake Atitlan tonight. Going to Solola to see the market tomorrow, and then back to Antigua for one more night Saturday morning. Flight home is Sunday morning.
