1. eating great cheap baguette w/ cheap table wine on the 5th floor patio of the AirBNB place we were at
2. Centre Pompidou is great if you dig contemporary art, and has some interesting street performer stuff going on about it
3. musee de l'erotisme might have that "museum of surgical science" vibe, if a bit more campy
The scale of some of the art in the Louvre was also jaw-dropping; the frames were huge, and the scale was monumental.
I know what you mean about places being overrated etc, but you can get jaded about almost anything if you're not careful.

It might be nostalgia-tinted glasses and a combination of the right time of year and just digging making cheap dinners (frankly I think we weren't feeling gourmet enough to take on the restaurants, but the cheap wine and bread was really good and hard to match over here) but picnicking up on that patio, above the worst of the street noise w/ pretty looking buildings across the way, maybe reviewing the day's photos on an ipad, that's one of my favorite memories of the whole Paris-Germany-London jaunt we took.
