I picked a fight a bit with Charlie on Thursday, saying that I thought this whole Give George Lucas A Chunk of the Lakefront For a Stupid Museum thing was bullshit, and I do think it's bullshit, but part of why I don't like it is that every time the landscape of the city changes it becomes something different from the thing I knew. You've made me nostalgic for Chicago with this, or at least helped me to remember that there were a lot of things I liked, in addition to it being the locale for a lot of stupid life decisions. I think I would like to visit again some day.

Ha! People here are wringing their hands over losing the Lucas Museum to Chicago but I think it was positive. He demanded too much for a Bullshit Museum dedicated to making him even more money than he already has. Sorry Chicago, you lose!

Charlie was like "It will bring visitors to Chicago! The city will make money!" totally oblivious to the fact that Chicago is CRAWLING with tourists 10 months of the year and less-wealthy industry conventions the other 2. (Charlie also told me back in 2006 that he really hoped Chicago would get the Olympics, so that's the kind of dude he is.) You can spit on three world-class museums from the future site of the Lucas museum, four if the wind is good. Chicago has plenty of tourist draws already. Chicago will be FINE ( ... )
