One Year Later

The first day of spring is going to be strange for me for a while, I think. Last year it was the day my grandfather died, and from now on it will be an anniversary I observe whether I'm aware of it or not. His death hit me harder than I expected it to, and it was probably for the best that I didn't see my family until a month later for his memorial ( Read more... )

So true! And not just grandparents! Some years ago my mom told me that my dad read a parenting book when I was very young that said kids really enjoy being taken along with parents to run errands, and because of that he always picked me up from day care before doing stuff like going to get the mail at their PO box. And, sure enough, I have a lot of fond memories related to getting the mail. My dad always liked to start opening envelopes at red lights. Every once in a while he'd miss the light changing to green, and I got to point it out to him (before the cars behind us started honking). I felt very important doing this.

Beautiful post. I always love when you post on livejournal. I rarely go on here any more, however I couldn't resist adding you on Facebook the other day when I saw you comment on my friend Shaun's Lena Dunham post. I hope you didn't mind! I could just always use more of your brain.
