Jaejoong woke up to an empty bed the next morning. Initially he had felt upset that Yunho had left him alone after their night together but when the previous night’s memories came rushing back in, Jaejoong couldn’t help but blush and chuckle into his pillow. Ever since Yunho had stepped into his life, everything seemed to be an amazing experience and memory. Memories he want to hold on dearly too until he aged. Things he wanted to tell to his grandchildren. Truly Jaejoong was happy despite the challenges he had faced so far in his 18 years of life.
He got up into a sitting position when suddenly someone knocked at the door to their room which opened mere moments later. A maid stepped through and walked elegantly towards Jaejoong.
“Good morning, Lord Jaejoong,” she greeted politely by bowing towards him. Jaejoong awkwardly bowed back from his sitting position, feeling a little weird being called a lord.
“Lord Yunho has left a note for you and asked me to pass it to you,” she said as she handed him single piece of white paper. However before Jaejoong could open it and read its contents, she continued speaking. “Lord Heechul wishes to meet you at the dining hall for breakfast before he tours you around the house today.”
He nodded at the maid before she dismissed herself by bowing and walking away from the room. Jaejoong quickly got of his bed and stretched his sore limbs. His behind felt a little sore but it was a good sore. Jaejoong almost laughed at his indecent thoughts. Nevertheless, he quickly opened the note and read what Yunho had written.
Dear beloved,
Sorry to have left you alone after our special night together but father requested my presence at his office early this morning. I do hope you have a good breakfast with Heechul and enjoy your day around the house. I will see you at dinner tonight.
Love, Yunho.
Jaejoong sighed lovingly at the letter. Although there was nothing special written in the letter but the fact that it was written by Yunho made it special to Jaejoong in many ways. Jaejoong could almost hear Yunho’s smooth voice in his head as he read the letter. Reading the words ‘beloved’ and ‘love’ again and again.
However, all romantic thoughts escaped his mind when he realised that he was going to be late for his meeting with Heechul. Jaejoong thought it would best if he cast a good impression on Heechul turning up on time. Leaving the letter by the side table, Jaejoong hurried to the bathroom.
--
Heechul was half-way done with his breakfast by the time Jaejoong had arrived.
“You’re not very good with time, are you?” Heechul asked a nervous Jaejoong stepped through the doors.
“I’m sorry I’m late, I got caught up with something.” Jaejoong said, not wanting to explain why he really got late. Let’s just say, Jaejoong tended to forget about time when he bathed and groomed himself. It also didn’t help that he had forgotten in which carrier he had put his daily clothes in. Then not to mention, the thousand choices he had to make before he finally selected his choice of clothing for the day. Jaejoong was still a young beta male and wanting to look good at a young age and among such high-class people came to be natural.
“Nevermind, no harm done today but I expect you to be on time when I or anyone else here expects to you be somewhere.” Heechul said and Jaejoong meekly nodded at his strict voice.
He continued standing there feeling utterly embarrassed, looking anywhere but at Heechul.
“Well, won’t you come and eat?” Heechul gestured to the food set on the table when Jaejoong refused to move from his position at the door. The young boy merely nodded again before joining Heechul at the table.
--
Heechul had showed him various places in the house already, all the while maintaining small talk about his home and family. They went to the Grand Hall where many banquets were held. It was connected to a crystal ball room which was magnificently beautiful in anyone’s eyes. Jaejoong was simply stunned by how grand the place looked but at the same time so empty with just ornaments and chandeliers handing off the ceiling and wall. Heechul had assured him that the lonely place did come to live when parties were held.
They had then visited the corridor connecting various bedrooms of the people of the house. There were so many rooms that Jaejoong had lost count half-way and it was also no surprise that even Heechul had his own room in this massive place. They had stayed a while in Heechul’s room where Heechul had showed him the various paintings he had done. Afterall, Heechul was one of the best painters in the eastern lands for nothing.
“What do you do, Jaejoong?” Heechul asked after showing him an array of paintings, each one of them receiving numerous praises from Jaejoong. Jaejoong did not know how to answer Heechul as he had stopped schooling at the age of 16 to help out at home since it was big burden on his father to send all of their 9 children through further education. Afterall, it was expected that all the Kim children will be married into reputable houses so there was no pointing in pursuing education to secure a job since they would have quit it eventually in order to cater to their new families.
“I play the piano.” Jaejoong said and it was true. Jaejoong did play the piano and he played it very well. He had no tutor since young but he managed to learn it by observing his sisters and practising daily.
“Oh? I would love to hear you play someday.” Heechul said as he kept away his paintings to where they belonged.
They then visited the library which was filled with various books from shelf to shelf. It was really a cosy place to get away. There was even a small fire place with cushions nearby for an evening of enjoyment with a book and some hot chocolate. It was perfect in Jaejoong eyes.
“Do you read?” Heechul asked.
“Sometimes. I do love poetry.” Jaejoong answered. He mentally decided to spend more time in this place.
“What do you know about politics, say, the politics of the Eastern Lands.” Heechul asked as he took a seat at one of the tables, watching Jaejoong wandered from shelf to shelf, running his hands over the spine of the books.
“Hmm, nothing much.” Jaejoong off-handedly answered.
“Nothing much?!?” Heechul almost yelled, effectively turning Jaejoong’s full attention on him.
“You’re the spouse of the Eastern lands’ Lord’s son and you know nothing about politics?” Heechul asked frantically.
“I…I never got a chance to learn…” Jaejoong answered.
However, Heechul continued looking at Jaejoong as if he had committed a great crime. Heechul took a few deep breathes, trying to calm himself of the shock. He, who had grown up as an official’s son, believed that a country politics should be the basics a person ought to know. Knowing nothing about how a place is run is going beyond the level of ignorance. “What was Yunho thinking marrying a person like him…” Heechul whispered to himself.
“Well, I guess that just adds to the list of things you have to learn.” Heechul said as he decided it was about time to go out of the library to the rest of the house.
--
They had then visited the healing rooms, the kitchen, the gardens and various other places that it was almost evening when they had finally finished touring. Although, at the end of it, Jaejoong was still unsure of how to get to many places but he thought he was probably get used to it once he settles in well. He was then sent up to his room to freshen up before dinner.
By the time he had reached gotten ready for dinner and reached the dining hall, most of the people were already there. This time, instead of the long table, a shorter, smaller table occupied the middle of the room and was meant only for the occupants of house and a few others.
Yunho was already seated along with Mr. Jung, Yoochun, Changmin, Heechul and some officials.
“Jaejoong!” Yunho stood up from his seat and went over to the Jaejoong who was walking towards the table, taking his hands in his own palms, he pecked his lips. “It’s been an entire day since I saw you, I’ve missed you.”
“So have I.” Jaejoong said before leaning in for a kiss again.
The two led themselves to the dining table and sat at their respective places.
“How was your day, Jaejoong?” Mr. Jung asked, smiling, as wrinkles formed at where his laughing lines used to be.
“It was great; I had a lot of fun.” Jaejoong said and it was partially true. He enjoyed discovering the house although he had to take constant jabs and remarks from Heechul.
“I’m glad to hear of it.” Mr. Jung said and his face soon sobered up. “We were just discussing some things before you came in.”
Jaejoong lifted a questioning brow at that, looking at Yunho for any clues.
“I’m thinking of passing my position as the Lord of the Easterns Lands to Yunho.” Mr. Jung said as he watched Jaejoong’s eyes widen visibly.
“Is that true, Yunho?” Jaejoong asked his husband, who just nodded in confirmation but refused to let any emotion seep onto his face.
“I’m getting old and running this area is taking a lot out of me. Yunho has you to support him and it’s about time he took responsibility as an heir and also a family maker.” Mr. Jung said and Jaejoong nodded at him. Jaejoong understood that now he had responsibilities too. Supporting Yunho and building a family with him.
“I’m glad to hear of this.” Jaejoong said. “I’m sure that Yunho will make a good leader.”
Mr. Jung smiled, agreeing with Jaejoong and announced for their dinner to commence. No one spoke further on the topic of shifting leaderships yet Jaejoong noticed that Yunho remained stiff throughout the entire meal.
--
“You’re so tense, Yun.” Jaejoong said as he massaged his husband’s back as the two of them sat on their bed, getting ready to catch some sleep.
“Hmm.” Yunho hummed at the pleasure that Jaejoong was providing to his back.
“Are you scared?” the younger boy suddenly asked.
“About what?” Yunho asked without opening his eyes and continued enjoying the magic Jaejoong’s talented hands could do.
“Taking over your father position, of course.” Jaejoong replied.
Yunho suddenly turned around, knocking Jaejoong’s hand off his back.
“I don’t know…” Yunho sighed looking into his beloved’s eyes.
“I mean, on one hand, I feel the great honour of taking over such a position as it had been my dream to lead my people one day but at the same time, I don’t know if I am good enough for this position.” Yunho said, confiding his doubts.
“Of course you’re good enough for it or else your father wouldn’t have chosen you to give up his position to. He could have asked any of his trusted officials to lead.” Jaejong said. “Furthermore, he said he was going to guide you through this, so, it not as if he’s putting everything on you. He will let you take the lead once he thinks you’re ready.”
Yunho just stared at Jaejoong. “That’s probably the most mature thing that has come out of your mouth ever.”
“Hey!” Jaejoong cried. “What’s that supposed to mean?!” He playfully hit Yunho on his chest.
“I mean that I want you to be my docile little wife forever.” Yunho teased. “Not some smarty pants that goes order ordering his husband.”
“Did you bang your head against something? Because if you’re hoping for a docile little wife then you have got the wrong person, Mr. Jung Yunho.” Jaejoong indignantly placed his hands on his hips.
Yunho laughed at his Jaejoong’s cute appearance and immediately tackled him to bed, domineering him with a spat of kisses and some intense loving.
