It had been almost 2 weeks since Jaejoong had officially joined the Jung’s household and it was pity to say that he had only managed spend time with his husband during dinner and night times within these 2 weeks. If only Mr. Jung hadn’t passed on his duties so quickly onto Yunho, Jaejoong might have enjoyed his first few days in the Jung manor. Yunho had been constantly busy. Mornings were occupied with meetings, afternoons with paperwork and evenings with lessons. He was getting worried about his spouse’s health. Yunho face had started to look aged within a mere 2 weeks, a vast difference from the constantly smiling, shining Yunho.

As for Jaejoong, he felt so out of place, having nothing to do. Back at home, his days were preoccupied with helping his mother and his sisters and evenings were spent learning new things from his father.  When he had time off from chores, he would dash to Siwon’s house or a meeting place agreed on mutually by the duo to spend time with his best friend. They would swim by the lake, climb trees and check out the town’s hotties. But here, things were so different. The chores were handled by the maids and servants. He couldn’t even engage in his favourite past time of cooking because he was not even allowed near the kitchen. He hadn’t had the chance of stepping out of the manor to discover the city. But from what he knew, he hadn’t spotted any lakes or rivers while they travelled the road to the mansion. The city was perfectly man-made, the only natural sights were trees and a few gardens, a stark contrast to his town which was shaded with greenery everywhere. And it was not as if he had made many friends here so far that he could spend time with them. He only knew Yoochun, Changmin, Junsu and Heechul and that was about it. Yoochun and Changmin were in the same situation as Yunho, assisting him in taking over his father’s position. Heechul had returned back home to handle some things and would be gone for a few days. Jaejoong didn’t know whether to think of it as a good thing or bad. Then there was Junsu, one of the house butlers, who was constantly busy with one thing or another around the house. But when he had time, he had made sure to spend it with the beauteous spouse of his master. Jaejoong had intrigued him ever since he had met him at the welcome feast. Junsu had never seen anyone so beautiful in his entire life and couldn’t take his eyes off Jaejoong whenever he was around. However when he saw Jaejoong feeling like a lost child once everyone reported to their respective duties, his heart went out to the beautiful beta-male and decided to keep his new lord company.

Junsu was tending to the garden as Jaejoong sat beneath a tree’s shade, a book in hand and a cup of tea in the other. To Jaejoong, it was another one of those tragic romance stories that he and his sisters grew up reading. He didn’t understand why his sisters found such books so interesting. The excitement etched on their faces as they flipped pages. The books were predictable, generic and ultimately boring. Yet Jaejoong sat through them as one of his sisters’s recited the stories before bed just like how he was trying to avoid boredom by engaging himself in some sort of activity.

“Junsu-shii, won’t you sit with me for a while?” Jaejoong asked, looking from his book as Junsu continued to water the plants.

Junsu hesitated at first, not wanting to shirk his duties but a moment of rest wouldn’t hurt. Junsu turned off the hose and joined Jaejoong at the picnic mat laid out for them.

“Have you heard anything from Yunho yet?” Jaejoong asked, putting his book aside. Yunho had been cooped up in his study since the morning and he had heard a peep from his husband since.

“Sorry, Lord Jaejoong but I haven’t.” Junsu replied. “Is it entirely appropriate for me to sit down with you?”

“Firstly, I would like you to stop calling me Lord Jaejoong. I just cannot get used to the title they have given me.” Jaejoong said.

“But…” Junsu hesitated.

“Calling my Jaejoong would suffice, at least in my presence alone. Although, you can continue calling me Lord Jaejoong around others for the sake of protocol.”

“Secondly, if it’s appropriate for you to join us at the high table, what’s wrong with joining me at a picnic? Plus, I consider you my friend, Junsu. I think that reason is plenty enough.” Jaejoong said with a smile which Junsu returned warmly.

Junsu had been always treated well amongst the Jung household. He was even given his own room for the night unlike the other servants who had to retire to their servant quarters at the end of the day. Mr. Jung had always treated him like his own son while Yunho and the others had also seen him as younger brother. But for the first time ever, he had found a friend within the Jungs.

“Why don’t you try some nuts?” Jaejoong offered to Junsu while pouring him some omija cha, which was one of Jaejoong’s favourite.

“Thank you.” Junsu gladly accepted. What to say, he loved food.

“Say, Junsu, what do when you’re not working? For a hobby, perhaps?” Jaejoong questioned, curious about what a person could do in this city of stones.

“I usually hang out with the other butlers and maids or join Yunho, Yoochun and Changmin-hyung in whatever they are doing. They enjoy going hunting during their free time.” Junsu replied, attention all focused on those yummy nuts though.

“Hunting, eh? Yunho never told me he enjoyed hunting.” Jaejoong said, sounding a little disappointed that he had yet to learn what his husband liked or disliked.

“Take baby-steps, Jaejoong. You can’t learn everything about your spouse in a matter of days. Most strong relationships are built after living with another person for years and learning the smallest thing about them bit by bit.” Junsu smirked at boy beside him. He did have an inkling about the sort of thoughts swarmed Jaejoong’s head. He knew his new lord of lonely in many ways. Although he had yet to completely figure out the new addition to their family, he knew that Jaejoong liked to blame himself for most things but was a very determined and strong willed fellow.

“Thanks, Junsu-yah. I just…I just…wish that I could help him in some way.” Jaejoong looked hopelessly at Junsu. “I don’t want to wander around the house having nothing to do while Yunho is working his mind off in that study. But there is nothing I’m capable of doing.”

“I’m sure if Yunho wanted help, he would have asked.” Junsu reassured. “Anyway, he isn’t the type who accepts help easily. If it wasn’t Yoochun or Changmin hyung’s duty, he would have probably kicked them out as well.”

Jaejoong chuckled.  “He can be so difficult at times but I suppose that could be one of his charms.”

--

Dinner was a silent event. Jaejoong was not even received at the door of the dining room with a kiss from his husband for his spouse has planned to skip dinner altogether. So it was just Mr. Jung, Changmin, Yoochun and himself at the table.

Yoochun and Changmin were too worn out to hold be proper conversation while Mr. Jung seemed to make small talk with the occupants of the room at times.

“I suppose I should retire early tonight. “ Jaejoong announced, barely eating anything at all. He had no appetite knowing that his husband was still working on a hungry stomach. Plus the tense environment didn’t help much.

Receiving an approving nod from Mr. Jung and good night greetings from the other two, Jaejoong quickly made his way up to their bedroom.

He was expecting an unoccupied room upon entering but to his surprise a very much worn out Yunho laid face first onto their bed.

“Yun…?” Jaejoong shook his husband who was practically dead on the mattress. “Are you asleep?”

“Hnn…?” Yunho blearily opened his tired eyes, turning around to look lazily at Jaejoong.

Yunho gave a tired yet assuring smile to his spouse. “Jaejoong-ah, I’ve missed you.”

“Have you eaten?” Jaejoong asked worriedly, ignoring his husband’s sentiments.

“No…too tired to even put some food in my stomach. I believe my facial muscles would not be able to take the strain.” Yunho joked but it was partially true. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t hungry, he just didn’t want to move an inch.

“I could call up the servants to bring up some food. I’ll feed you alright?” Jaejoong said and made a move to get up and call for some food. Before he could even step away from the bed, Yunho pulled him back down.

“Don’t…just want to sleep.” Yunho said but before he could speak further, he let himself surrender to realms of dreams. His breath came out in small puffs and soon his breathing evened out.

Jaejoong sighed at his husband’s state. The poor man was driven to exhaustion!

He carefully rearranged his husband on the bed before slowly slipping off the man’s overcoat and vest. Making sure that Yunho was comfortable, he tugged the duvet over the two of them.

With a sigh, Jaejoong wished the unconscious man goodnight. He knew that he had to do something about this.
