“I didn’t know that this would take away so much time from me.” Yunho said, rubbing his hand over his face. Yoochun sighed as looked over the stack of papers at Yunho. Changmin was already slumped at the sofa at the corner of the room, completely worn out.

It was already way past midnight and the 3 had collectively skipped dinner to finalize a few things. Amongst all the official work, they had to look over at how the preparations of the ceremony were coming along. The ceremony where Mr. Jung officially passed on his title over to Yunho.  All the officials of the eastern land were invited to witness the event along with their families. Following the ceremony was a banquet held in the Jung Manor’s Grand Hall and finally dance and festivities in the Crystal Ball room. It was going to be the event of the year or even more. Invitations, food, all the preparation had to be looked over by the 3, making sure that event would flow smoothly without a flaw.

“You should head over to your bedroom and get some sleep, Yunho hyung. Changmin and I will wrap up things here.” Yoochun said.  “You really shouldn’t leave Jaejoong all alone this way. He must feel terribly lonely and out of place. Afterall, it has only been a few weeks since he joined our family.”

“I know, I know but duty is duty, Yoochun, I just can’t be irresponsible right now especially if I want people to accept me as their new leader in a few days’ time.” Yunho said, picking up yet another piece of paper and looking over at its content.

“Then what about your responsibility over Jaejoong? Your responsibility as a husband to love and care for him?” Yoochun asked, stealthy taking away the paper from Yunho’s grasp. “I believe that poor boy has never been outside the walls of the manor ever since he arrived. No one has bothered accompanying him anywhere especially since Heechul is still over his parents’ house.”

“I’ve been meaning to give him a tour of the city personally but time never permitted that.” Yunho replied, feeling extremely guilty about neglecting his spouse. “I suppose I could get one of the guards to accompany him outside. I want him to be well-introduced to the city before the ceremony.”

“And if there is a guard you can trust someone so precious to you, it is the one and only; Guard Kangin.” Yoochun beamed. Yunho nodded, agreeing. Kangin was one of the guards that he could fully give his trust to. He had been loyal to the Jung family for years already and had proven himself to be one of the best guards around. What better way to introduce his favourite guard to Jaejoong.

--

Jaejoong absentmindedly sipped from his cup, his mind scattered with thoughts. Yunho had come to bed late last night and was long gone before Jaejoong woke up. The only way Jaejoong knew that his husband had actually joined him in bed last night was because of the crumpled sheets on his husband’s side of the bed.

He was sitting alone at the dining table, taking his time to finish breakfast, afterall what better way to kill some time. The maids and servants were bustling around him, getting the manor ready for the ceremony ever though there were quite a few days left until the big event.

“Lord Jaejoong, would you like to sample some of the treats that have been prepared for the banquet?” A maid bent down to offer him a tray of goodies. Jaejoong kindly accepted a piece but he swore he had already grown chubbier ever since he had started living at the Jung manor. He did nothing but eat, sleep and laze around the house. He wanted to go out of the house so badly, just walk and wander around the city. But he did not know the city well and it will never be his intention to get lost in a foreign place.

“Guard Kangin entering!” the guard at the door of the dining room shouted the arrival of a new comer.

Jaejoong looked up from his tea, wondering who this Guard Kangin was. He wasn’t surprised to see a sturdy, strong man walk into the dining hall. He was uniformed and carried a sword attached to his belt. The aura around the man just screamed of discipline, he was someone not to be messed around with.

But to Jaejoong’s surprise, the man made his way towards him instead. Upon reaching Jaejoong, he gave a quick but deep bow and introduced himself.

“Good morning, Lord Jaejoong, I’m guard Kangin and I’ve been assigned as your personal guard starting today.” The big guy said.
“What?!” Jaejoong exclaimed, setting his tea down onto the table. “I don’t remember asking for a guard.”

“Lord Yunho requested that I be assigned as your personal guard starting today.” Kangin replied firmly, not affected by Jaejoong’s outburst.

How could Yunho do this? Did he really think that Jaejoong was child? Given that Jaejoong was much younger than Yunho but that didn’t mean he couldn’t handle himself. He was perfectly capable of taking care of himself. He definitely didn’t require a watch dog following him everywhere he went. Sure, he wanted a company but that didn’t mean that a guard had the ability to give him that. Yes, he wanted company, Yunho’s company.

“Well, you can tell Yunho that I most definitely do not require a guard.” Jaejoong replied, turning away from the guard.

“I’m sorry, Lord Jaejoong. I take orders directly from Lord Yunho and no one else.” Kangin replied.

Jaejoong huffed and stood up from his seat. He didn’t need a guard; he would make sure he won’t have one! Jaejoong stormed past Kangin, heading towards the door. But, of course, Kangin dutifully followed his charge.

Jaejoong rushed through the corridors, knowing the route to different rooms by heart now. Turning on his right, up the stairs and through the corridor, guard Kangin instantly recognised the place Jaejoong was heading towards. Quickening his pace, Kangin caught up to Jaejoong and grabbed his charge by the arm just before Jaejoong could reach for the door handle.

“You’re not allowed to go in there.” Kangin sternly said to Jaejoong. Jaejoong knew that well enough. He wasn’t supposed to interrupt Yunho during work unless it was an emergency or a dire situation.

Well, it was definitely a dire situation right now according to Jaejoong. Never had Jaejoong been manhandled like this before! When guard Kangin had so suddenly grabbed his arm, he could help but let out a shout of distress. Immediately, the doors to the study were thrown open as a furious Changmin looked for the source of interruption.

“What is happening here?!” Changmin asked and all he saw a distressed Jaejoong being grabbed by Yunho’s trusted guard.

--

“You’re absolutely are not allowed to manhandle the lords or anyone else for that matter, Kangin!” Yoochun scolded the chastised looking guard. Kangin had never put on such behaviour before but somehow Jaejoong has managed to irk something in him.

Jaejoong had immediately rushed over to Yunho and held him after what felt like centuries. While Jaejoong was busy holding onto Yunho, Yunho was looking out for any bruises on Jaejoong’s arm. Had there been one, he would have done something to Kangin, trusted guard or not.

“Yunho, why do you have assigned a guard to me? I’m perfectly capable of looking after myself!” Jaejoong exclaimed to Yunho, who continued holding his spouse in his arms.

“I know you are, Jaejoong. I just thought you’d feel lonely around the house. It would be nice to have company.” Yunho explained.
“But-” Jaejoong had wanted to argue back but Yunho cut him off.

“I wanted you to discover the city as well but you can’t do it alone. I thought having a guard around would be a good option.” Yunho said, planting a kiss on top of Jaejoong’s head.

“But, you were supposed to accompany me! You promised, Yunho!” Jaejoong shouted. He knew he was behaving childishly and it had been a while since he behaved this way. He had always shown exemplary behaviour around everyone but now he was just getting tired.

“I’m sorry, Jaejoong, there is so much work and I-” Yunho didn’t get to finish his sentence because Jaejoong yanked his body out of Yunho’s grip and ran away angrily.

“Jaejoong!” Yunho yelled after him. Kangin didn’t waste any time and went after his charge.

--

Kangin had lost Jaejoong half way and had spent a good one hour looking for his young lord. But he finally managed to find him sitting under the further tree in the gardens.

Kangin was a few meters away from Jaejoong when he saw the boy’s shoulders shake uncontrollably. It was then the guard realised that the boy was crying. Kangin felt awkward all of a sudden, having never dealt with weeping lords. He took a deep breath and decided that this was the time to learn and make things right.

He quickly a plucked a lovely red apple from the apple tree next to him and made his way to the sobbing boy.

“Hey there,” he crouched down next to Jaejoong underneath the tree’s shade. “Apple?”

Jaejoong looked up at him through his long wet eyelashes and turned his body to another angle upon seeing Kangin next to him.

“Hey, it’s okay.” Kangin said as he inched closer. “I’m not really as terrible as you make me out to be.”

“I’m sorry if I frightened you by grabbing you in such a manner earlier today. I just don’t know what overcame me, never have I ever behaved like this.” Kangin said as he sat down next to Jaejoong. “I suppose it was seeing your youth that brought out a child in me too.”

“But I promise this won’t happen in the future.” Kangin said. “I’m a pretty decent guy if you get to know me.”

Jaejoong continued to remain silent, letting out a little sniff now and then.

“There is a reason why I’m known as Lord Yunho’s favourite guard, ya know. I’m pretty likable as unbelievable as that might sound to you.” Kangin chuckled to himself. “I assure you that the city-tour with me would be really memorable. And I daresay more than Lord Yunho could ever make it out to be. Although, Lord Yunho is to be the new leader of the Eastern Lands, there are some places that Lord Yunho doesn’t even know exist! Those are really the places to look out for.”

“Really, Lord Jaejoong, if you really wish to have a tour with Lord Yunho that much, I’m sure he can give you one once he has less things to attend to. For now, I’ll have to do, yeah?” Kangin said and placed a placating hand on Jaejoong’s shoulder.

“It’s…it’s not just that…” Jaejoong started, finally turning around looking at Kangin. “I couldn’t really care about who gave the city’s tour. It’s just that…”

Kangin nodded, encouraging Jaeoong to continue speaking.

“I wish…I wish…he wouldn’t ignore me any longer.” Jaejoong said, looking right into Kangin’s eyes. “I hate been ignored and left alone. I hate being lonely. I know he has work to attend to but sometimes, I feel that I’m constantly being neglected by my own spouse. I don’t see him at all during daytime and now, I don’t see during nighttime either. I hate being so useless. Unable to do anything to help him and our situation.  I wish I could do something…anything…”

“I just hope he isn’t angry with me though. Not only does he have to deal with work but a childish spouse as well. I’m not only useless but now I feel like I’ve become a burden to him as well.” Jaejoong let out a loud sob at that.

“I’m sure Lord Yunho doesn’t think of you as a burden. Far from it actually.” Kangin consoled. “In fact, for someone as young as you, you’re allowed to a moment or two where you can behave like a child.”

“Really…?” Jaejoong asked, unconvinced. He was pretty sure he let a bad impression on Yunho once he torn out of the study in a fit of anger.

“Yes, really.” Kangin assured. “Why don’t we clean up and then go down to study so that you can apologize to Yunho. Afterwhich we can do anything you want to do. How about that?”

--

Guard Kangin didn’t know how long he waited for Lord Jaejoong outside his chamber because it sure felt like decades before Jaejoong came out well dressed and clean. Tears streaks no longer marred the perfect face and he was looking happier as well.

“I thought I was going to turn 50 waiting for you to clean up.”  Kangin joked receiving a “Hey!” in return but this time it bore no negativities.
“We’re going to have a great day ahead of us!” Kangin said as he dutifully followed Jaejoong towards the study.

Surprisingly when they turned the corner towards the study, the door was wide open unlike most of the times where it was closed shut. Perhaps someone had gone in and forgotten close it after them. Kangin being the taller of the two looked straight at the study room but he didn’t quite liked what he saw.

“How about we visit Lord Yunho later? He must be busy. I believe the city tour is waiting for you.” Kangin quickened his paced and stepped right in of Jaejoong suddenly, blocking his view of the study completely.

“Wha-? But we’re right in front of the study. A few moments would not do any harm.” Jaejoong said and side stepped Kangin and went right towards the study. However, he was forced to stop as he saw what was going on in the room.

There was Yunho holding Heechul close to him, engaging him in an intimate hug. Just then, for the first in his life, Jaejoong thought that his heart had shattered to pieces.

“I…I…just…” The shock had robbed Jaejoong of his speech. He swore he felt actual pain in his heart as he continued watching the scene.

“Lord Jaejoong…” Kangin brought a hand towards Jaejoong to console him but Jaejoong escaped his grasp and made a dash.

It was for the second time that day, guard Kangin found himself chasing after Jaejoong.
