Being the youngest amongst nine children wasn’t very easy. Kim Jaejun was a living proof of that. The constant noise around the house, which her parents termed as liveliness and cheerfulness, the lack of privacy due to so many prying sisters, the constant fights over petty things, you name it. Jaejun had faced them all. More so since she was the youngest and often the target of many happenings around the house.
So when a boy from school had caught Jaejun’s eye, it wasn’t much time before the news spread like wildfire amongst the older sisters even though most of them no longer attended school but somehow made time for gossip during work.
“Yah, Kim Jaejun, is he handsome?” Her eighth sister asked. Jaejun made a face at Boa before shoving her away. Jaejun returned to chemistry book, attempting to understand the chemical equation before her sister nudged her once again.
“What’s he like? Tall, dark and handsome? Kyaa! That’s so my ideal type!” Boa giggled, effectively distracting Jaejun from her work.
“Pfft. You don’t even have to ask what’s he like. All you need to know if that he already a pretty girlfriend.”
--
“Pretty girlfriend huh? I bet you are prettier.” Ara argued, chopping some vegetables.
“No. I’m not. He like girls with large eyes, not eyes like mine. You know, large enough to look like a goldfish or something. Girls with cute button noses, not like mine, raised and crooked. Girls with a pretty smile not like me who covers up her face whenever she laughs because it’s so unappealing.” Jaejun sighed and stirred the food with more vigour.
“Jaejun, come on, don’t be like this -” Ara was effectively cut off when Jaejun turned around and said.
“And he likes girls with straight hair not like mine, wavy and sticking out at odd angles.”
--
“Who cares about looks? Let your personality shine through.” Sooyoung said as she walked with her sister down the school’s hallway.
“He likes girls who are witty. Girls who can strike up an interesting conversation. Girls who can crack jokes. Girls like you.” Jaejun said bitterly. “Why don’t you date him?”
“I-I-me…me? What are you-” Sooyoung was flabbergasted.
“Yah! Kim Jaejun! Wait up!” A voiced from behind called. The two of them turned around to a panting Jung Yunho.
“Would you go out with me?”
--
“Why won’t you pick up the phone?” Taeyeon asked as she plopped herself down onto her sister’s bed.
“He is distracting and annoying.” Jaejun huffed.
“He has been dying to meet you since your papers started. Cut him some slack, poor boy has tolerated 3 years of nonsense from you.” Taeyeon urged.
“Oi. Kim Jaejun! Down here!” A distracting and annoying voice called from below. Jaejun and Taeyeon peeked out from the window, only to see a certain Jung Yunho jumping up and down with a banner in his hands.
Good Luck for your papers, Boo!

Yoona and Jaejun planted themselves on their respective seats at the café. Who knew shopping could be so tiring. But fun nonetheless.
“Shopping, the best way to heal a broken heart.” Jaejun stated. Yoona rolled her eyes.
“Your fiancé did not cheat on you.” Yoona said.
“Did too. Didn’t you see how up and close he was with that dim-witted girl?” Jaejun scrowled.
“Yunho was merely making arrangements for the wedding day by discussing, I repeat, discussing with the florist.” Yoona replied. “And by looks of how many wedding accessories you have brought,” Yoona eyed the shopping bags wryly, “This wedding is still happening.”
--
Hyo Joo adjusted the veil on Jaejun’s head.
“You look stunning.” She said looking at Jaejun through the mirror.
“And fat.” Jaejun mumbled as she shifted in her wedding grown that stretched across her expanded belly.
Yunho had been too quick with his hands. Hence the reason he had gotten an earful from Mr. Kim. And hence the reason he was being mentally cursed by Jaejun.
“A bride is supposed to look gorgeous on her wedding day. Not like a whale.” Jaejun noted her appearance.
“A gorgeous whale, I’d say.” Hyo joo joked. “Don’t worry, Yunho will still accept you as his wife, whale or monkey.”
--
“Aw, she’s a cutie.” Yoonji gushed, holding her niece in her arms. “Jung Junsu.”
“Jaejun smiled at her sister, who was taking her time holding her beautiful niece as she knew that she would have to wait for long time before it was her turn again after looking at her other sisters’ eager faces.
“You’ll make a splendid mother, Jaejun,” Yoonji commented looking at her slightly wary sister who was still in her hospital bed.
“I’m sure she will,” Yunho said smilingly, dropping an affectionate kiss onto his wife’s head.
--
“Aish that girl!” Jaejun complained, sitting down across her oldest sister, Hyori. Hyori merely waved her sister off before sipping on her milkshake again.
“Junsu’s 16, Jaejun, don’t be such a spoil-sport, let the girl date, hang out with guys, you know teenagers nowdays, don’t you?” Hyori said.
“You don’t know that Yoochun boy. He has a reputation of being a play boy. What if he breaks my little girl’s heart?” Jaejun, the worrywart, questioned.
“I doubt that’ll happen. Boy’s smitten over my niece. If anything, I hope Junsu-ie won’t break the poor boy’s heart.” Hyori said but before Jaejun could disagree or agree…
“Jung Changmin, you’re grounded.” Jaejun screeched. “For a week. Is this the time to be coming home?”
Hyori sighed. Some things…they never change.
