in 5 very simple steps
I cropped
this image to this:
Step 1
Vibrance
+70
0
Step 2
Selective Colouring
reds -26, 0,0,0
yellows +10, -50, +24, 0
cyans +100, 0, +100, 0,
→ I used a layer mask because this step makes part of the icon unnatural. Deleted the colouring the right corner of the icons. See the part I deleted with the mask
here.
Step 3
Curves 1
output 132
input 125
Step 4
Curves 2
Output 165
Input 80
Step 5
copy
base, set to soft light and use the Gaussian Blur tool

ALL STEPS IN PS
Vesper and Bond from
this batch
to
in 7 to 9 steps
I cropped
this screencap and extend the background all the way to the top.
I always resize the canvas to 500x500 before I extend the background
click on the image for bigger size
after that I resized it to 100x100, so this ended up being the base I used:
Step 1
Copy the base, set to screen 22%
Step 2
Vibrance (1)
+100
0
Step 3
Selective color
reds -32, 0, 0, 0
yellows 0, 0 , +100, 0
blacks -10, +20, +18, +15
Step 4
texture by
ohfreckle set to screen, set opacity to 40%
Step 5
Vibrance (2)
+90
0
Step 6
New blank layer Shift+Cntrl+N
Use a small brush (size13) with the colour #f9dbce
Set layer to soft light (80%) and colour the area around Vesper and Bond
It'll make that part lighter, if needed you can lower the opacity more.
Step 7
To make the edges a bit darker
New blank layer Shift+Cntrl+N → Set to soft light (100%)
Use a small brush (size 7) with the colour black
OR you can use this 'texture' (set to soft light) for the same effect:
result:
ALL STEPS COMBINED IN PS
+ extra steps This is not exactly the same like how I posted the original icon, so I must have adjusted it. (I tend to do that a lot)
These are two tools I use a lot:
You have to save the image or press Ctrl+Alt+E and then:
Image->Adjustments->Shadows/Highlights
and/or
Image->Adjustments->Match Color
TIP: If you use these last two tools, I strongly advise to copy the base first so if you mess up with the options or if the icon turns out to be too light or too saturated, you can always lower the opacity and fix it easily or delete the adjustment altogether.
A/N. This is my first ever tutorial! If I haven't explained something good enough ASK away or if you want me to add more caps of the steps, just let me know!
