I was listening to one of the older Speech in the Silence podcasts earlier, wherein T Omphalos mentioned figures for the success of the early days of the AA. According to the good Bishop, around one hundred Probationers signed up. Of those, less than ten made it to Neophyte. Any info on why those 90% didn't move on? Was it mostly self-selection (dropped out, didn't do the work, etc.), or were they "flunked," so to speak?

Dunno. I think alot of them bailed when the feces hit the fan after the Rites of Eleusis. But, who knows how long they'd been probationers before that. It'd be interesting to find out how many dropped after after the press exposure and how many for the other reasons you name.

One of those "failed" Probationers was A.O. Spare. Just goes to show, you can never really tell...
