This morning I realized/remembered this morning, that I first met Garth Nix around 15 years ago. Probably.

I knew an author had come to my school and talked about his book and career and publishing, but I only just pieced together that it was probably Garth Nix. Author Man had come to my school to talk about his book and about being a writer. Some ( Read more... )

Lovely post! I can imagine myself doing that as well by my late teens. At the ripe old age of 11 I met Graeme Base at my first writer's camp, who was working through his drafts of 'Animalia' and showed us some of the paintings. I've even got a photo of him - he wore unmatched brightly coloured socks and cut his hair and dressed like an extra member of Split Enz. I was taken aback by all this flamboyance.

Indeed.
I do miss some of that arrogance, and wonder how I can tap into it. I think writers must be explorers and there are many was to become bland with fear. The fierce bravery and courage of youth, so dangerous, wild and wonderful.
