Day Three

Mar 18, 2020 16:10

It's a beautiful day today so Wolfgang and I put our plan into action and cycled into Vienna to go for a final walk with Tashi and her boyfriend. It was lovely to see her and I was able to say a proper "See you on the other side" goodbye, so I feel better now but only being in phone contact. But there were so many people out cycling and running! ( Read more... )

What an awful thought of being forbidden to go outside for a walk! Wouldn't it be safe enough if everyone maintained a proper distance?

I have looked at what 'Shelter in Place' involves here, and it allows "engaging in outdoor activity, such as walking, hiking or running provided that they maintain at least 6 feet of social distancing."

On the lighter side - I have to say how gratifying it is to read your posts, and seeing those names - Wolfgang, Bexie, Tashi. I have sorely missed you, and yes, I know I should have been e-mailing you, but you know what a damned introvert I am. Every May, I look to see if Wolfgang's gone sailing, via that old sail-whatever site:)

Swear: some day, when Rick's retired, we will meet in Austria. I shall not be nude.

That's so sweet of you! What a lovely thing to say!

Austria is beautiful, you should definitely come one day. And not just to Vienna - you must see Salzburg and Hallstatt and lots of other places!

I think Spain's more draconian measures are due to the fact that they have a galloping rate of infection and people aren't being strict about keeping the required distance (we decided yesterday after meeting up with Tashi that we shouldn't do it again because we didn't manage to keep a strict distance at all times). If you have a lot of people walking in narrow city streets - and Spanish cities have a lot of alleyways - they're unlikely to be disciplined enough to form an orderly queue to get through :-)

I'm glad you and W were able to see Tashi and boyfriend.

Where we live it is not congested. Rick and I were talking last night about how different the old cities and towns are in this region compared to how crowded it is in other parts of the world. We are lucky to have all this space where we live.
