Just saw that new special on VH1 on gay culture. Everywhere I turn these days, the talking heads and pundits are disecting and debating "the summer of the gays" or "the gay noughties" or some other completely ludicrous label for what they see as an emerging trend in pop culture ( Read more... )

I also just watched that VH1 special and was going to write a post saying a lot of the same stuff you did. I, too, greatly enjoy QE, but because these shows are so dependent on stereotypes that, although they're often somewhat "correct," don't advance the idea that gay people and straight people are really not that different. I just don't think the trend is a sign of any actual progress.

That is weird! Yeah, I'd also be really interested in seeing how this current "gay craze" plays into the 2004 elections. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm looking forward to getting back to school and getting to jam with you and veganinja and the wellness crew on this kinda stuff. Your lj has kept me entertained this summer, but it's no substitute for the real thing!
