Today was a good day.

Today (ok, technically yesterday) was a good day, especially in retrospect, sitting here watching videos helping me to visualise the fourth dimension and chatting with sessifet25 about this and other things ( Read more... )

Heh, thanks. I'm not really a software engineer, plus I don't think they have jobs where I'm looking..

I've watched the first video and the one with the tesseract - absolutely fascinating. Would Grandpa - my father - have believed in a fourth dimension?

It's not really a question of belief. The second video is simply a mathematical demonstration of the shadow cast by a 4d object on a 3d surface.

I suppose if you mean in a causality - could the 4th dimension affect us or be important in some way - well, potentially, yes. Some people suggest the 4th dimension is time, for example.

In actual fact, mathematicians believe there could be up to 11 dimensions, at least to the limit of our understanding. Some of the work being done on string theory relies on these extra dimensions to attempt to unify explanations of physical properties at micro and macro scales.

It's a really tough market out there at the moment, I've been job hunting since I finished university 4 months ago, and I have my first interview coming up. Four fucking months for one interview.

My recommendation: One job application a day, keep a record, set dates to pester people when they don't respond (because barely anyone does these days). I've been on the job a day diet for three weeks now, and I have one interview and the possibility of a another. It's horrible for everyone, even somebody with your skills needs to push as much as possible to get employment. Good luck!

I have a feeling I know what the problem is in my case, and I will adjust my strategy accordingly - but yes, it is a tough market at the moment. I am doing something similar to the one a day regimen, and I am keeping records and following up afterwards.

More and more, perhaps because of the level I'm looking at, it does seem to be about who you know (i.e. networking) over and above anything else. Networking, as my outplacement company tells me, is what gets jobhunters their next job 60-80% of the time.

Glad you're feeling ok still :-) On a completely selfish note, I didn't think the factory was actually going to close so I'm quite surprised that they'll be out by Christmas. The noise has been getting on my nerves a bit lately but normally I don't really notice it as I'm fairly unobservant ;-)

Now I'm back to wondering whether they're going to build those houses they were going on about a while back......
